I got home from work today and found a business card taped to my front door, left by a deputy from the local Sheriff's Civil Process department.  Is this standard practice?  I would have thought that there would be some sort of form letter saying "we have papers for John Doe, please call".  I rent and I've only been living here for a few months so it's possible (I hope) that they are looking for somebody else.

Anybody with experience care to give your thoughts?  Thanks.

Standard practice, no big deal.  Call them and ask them what's up.

Already did, gone for the day so I'll find out tomorrow.  Just curious more than anything... Seemed a bit subtle.

Subtle?  They announced it is coming!  You are not required to contact them or do anything, just don't purposefully avoid them.

Well... They were looking for somebody that used to live in my house.  The officer I spoke with thanked me for my cooperation and wished me well.  Thanks for the input.
