OK...so, i've got my psych eval this friday for the corrections officer position. I passed the written with flying colors, did well on the oral, already sat down with the background investigator and took the pre psych.. now they want me for the psych, they said I have to be there at 8 am and that it will take a better part of the day... how long can a psych eval take? I don't even honestly know what to expect, any help or hints on what I might be facing...your input is highly welcomed. |

I double dog dare you to go in a clown suit, carrying a sex doll under your arm and a cage full of hampsters and a cardboard tube. I kid, I kid. I just couldn't resist that for some reason. Never taken a psych eval, although judging by what I came up with above, maybe I need one. I just wanted to say good luck. |

Ive taken 4. passed all of them , sped through it, its basically 50 questions asked 20 different ways. I learned after the first one. The sooner youre done with answering the scantron, the sooner you see the shrink, and you still may make it out by early afternoon and salvage your day off |
| right on. I already took the pre-psych, which was the written, took 2 and 1/2 hours, one of them was the CPI...some california one that was 430+ true false questions. they asked if I owned any assault rifles (including ar-15s)...I own 1 AR, so I hope they don't think i'm psychotic or something (with this day and age with all the columbine and media slandering of the black rifle and whatnot). |

Its really a test to determine your actual level of crazy, because no sane person wants to work LE, Fire, or EMS My one and only psych eval was as someone else already stated, 4 hours of test answering, followed by a 10 min conversation with a shrink. It sounds like you have already taken the written portion so I don't know what your will be like if it is going to take all day. Granted, if they are doing a bunch on one day, most of it might be waiting. |

Yea its 1,000+ questions it'll take forever. Then theres a comprehension part @ the end when your mind is mush after all those questions. @ least thats how mine was. Not to mention they can only ask you if you "love" your mom so many times, or if you "ever wanted to kill someone" before you want to kill the maker of the exam. P.S. Don't answer yes to "I think the world hates me and I just don't want to live anymore" I did accidentally, they call you back in while asking you "wtf?" questions wondering whats up w/ you. |
yeah I know, i read that one...as I said, I already took the pre-psych, there were two parts, pre-psych and actual psych...
yep, that's how it was, the pre-psych was 2 1/2 hours, the CPI and some other random one, and then the actual psych they sat us down in a group of like 10 and had us do a timed comprehension test that was 15 minutes long, then the MMPI, and some other type of background/writing comprehension packet, and afterwards like a 20 minute interview with the shrink. overall I ended up being there from 8 am til 330 in the afternoon...with a like 2 hour lunch break, wtf? I hope i'm just un-crazy enough, haha. |
I don't know, I hope not. I marked that I owned 1 pistol and 1 assault rifle(since the CPI actually specified AR-15), and the shrink only asked about the assault rifle, not the pistol and asked what kind of assault rifle that I owned... |
Unless it was in a state that required registration of firearms, I would mark 'none' (although it you have a concealed carry permit, it might be a good idea to mark that you own a pistol) I don't consider that lying, I consider the fact I own a gun none of their business and it has nothing to do with my psychological health. They don't ask if you have a sword collection do they? Mine never asked anything about firearms so I didn't have to decide if I wanted to answer that or not. |
