As someone with 18 + years in the Fire Service I despise when others combine their personal crap with obvious connectiond to their "public service" affiliation.  I have no problem with people having a fun personal life, but don't agree with obvious connections to their agency being shown.  Opinions?

I have a myspace. I don't have anything on there about my LE job, but alot of my friends have LE stuff on there site. I would love to put work related stuff, but the fact is criminals are on myspace to. Its great for me because I mainly use it to email other people I know.

I have came very close numerous times deleting mine.

I have a MySpace and have neutered it so thoroughly that it looks like I don't have an association with anyone. I also keep it private so only people I know can view it.

Anyone who keeps theirs wide open and full of stupid stuff is asking for trouble.

I just can't do it. Can not get myself to want a myspace age.

As for putting agncy related stuff or identifying yourself as police? Bad idea.

I would identify as being related to law enforcement, but not state what branch, agency or position. Some information is warranted, ALL information is dangerous. You can tell people about yourself without actually telling them about yourself

It's hard to live a happy life under cloak and dagger, eventually we all need to let a few non-LEO in (cadet here so not speaking from experience) but it's something a lot of LEO's have stressed a lot to me. Have outside friends but be careful in who you pick.

Anytime a cop gets jammed up in NYC, the first place the media goes looking is MySpace, Facebook etc.

In general,  I think things like myspace are pretty lame. If people want to show their affiliation with agency XYZ then that's up to them, as long as it's in good taste and doesn't crap on other agencies or things like that. What really pisses me off is when guys use their affiliation to try to get discounts and free stuff or influence people. It makes us all look like a bunch of crooked assholes.

Stay safe...

You will hopefully understand someday.   Not a bash.      PERSEC.

That is true but myspace is not the spot to find new friends.

To me....myspace is a place to stay in contact with old friends, family etc. Not a place to gloat.

Just my opinion

My previous agency looked up all employees (sworn and non) to check for inappropriate identification of the department, etc. and took action against any persons found to be in violation of agency policy.

I have seen people post some dumb shit on myspace so no I don't have one and do not want one.  I value my privacy so I don't advertise where I work, I usually tell people I work in "waste management" or "for the State" and that ends the conversation.
Anyone that needs to know me in an official capacity already does.

I use myspace to find and catch up wtih old friends. I rarely check it, and I have no family pictures or work pictures on it. Just some army pics and some stuff with my 4x4's. Nothing too crazy.

And don't think that defense attorneys wouldn't do the same.  They'd rather put anyone but their client on trial. . . why not you?
