I am finally being sworn in tomorrow. It has been a very long 15 weeks, had to put up with twice the bullshit as any other recruit, but it was well worth it. We hit the streets on foot patrols next week for a month, followed by another 10 weeks PTO. FINALLY! |
Why is that? |
It's a very long story, and I'll just say it involves a rumor started by a jealous recruit about me and a very close young lady that was in the academy at the time... Lesson learned: 1. Apparently one must be void of all human contact at all times in public. 2. Know who you can trust and who you can't. 3. If you hear of a rumor involving yourself, cut it off at the pass by going to the brass and getting them involved... I was reprimanded over a rumor, had to write a statement about driving habits, and told by my LT that if she had to see me in her office again that she would try her best to fire me... ![]() Funny part to me is that I am the most "by the book" guy in our recruit class, and yet I get reprimanded for misconduct...

I always tell my single recruits this line of wisdom one of my old FTO's told me despite the fact I had been happily married for several years prior to recruit days. I still see what he was talking about. "Your badge can get you pussy, but pussy can get your badge." Funny though...I've seen it happen to more married ofc's than single ofc's. Imagine that. You'll learn that there are more juvenile rumors spread at a police dept than notes passed while in grade school. You'll become the company that you keep in this line of work so always remain 50ft away from any female dispatcher & don't hook up with that BOTD in distress who was involved at a 10-50 you investigated. I don't say much around folks other than my closest friends on the dept & I definitely don't say anything I don't want repeated. Situaional awareness applies to more than surviving in the beat. |
I've been in public safety for 5 years, Fire and EMS, as well as 911 dispatchin, so I sorta have a basic understandin of the rumormill that is public safety... To me, it is extremely unfortunate that it is like that, as I know countless marriages have been ruined over otherwise meaningless rumors. I actually went into the academy with the mindset that I would remain single until I got out and on the street. That way I could concentrate on the career and get it under way. Now that I am getting sworn in, I am hoping to shift my focus from the academy to hopefully settling down sometime in the next couple years. |
