Does anyone carry a patrol rifle with a surefire M500A forearm light? I'm wondering if it'll fit in most of the rifle racks that departments have installed in patrol cars. I know the M500A is a bit bigger than the normal forend (or so i'm told). I thought about getting one of these lights eventually but i'm not sure if it'll fit in the rack. |
please tell me that you dont go to work every day in a mustang with a true to life select fire M4 wtih a luepold Mk4 scope and surfire forearm light! If you do, then i need details and an application. |
Ok I won't tell you. Actually, that is my POV, Ram truck. I no longer go to work in my Mach1. I sold it. I now go to work everyday in my 300C. The department pays the bill for the car also. And yes I tote around the select fire M4. I also tend to tote around an MP5SD and a 14" Benelli M1 all compliments of the department. Sometimes the M4 wears an ACOG and sometimes an Eotech. However, I usually leave each one mounted on their own rifle and just pick the rifle that I prefer for the job at hand. Our division is a bit spoiled and we are the only officers issued FA weapons and being the "gun" guy in the division also has its perks. Oh and as far as the application goes, look for the department website thread here. We have 75 of em and there are only 50 full time guys. ![]()

I couldnt find any threads pertaining to a department wesite. Could you provide a link or lead me in the general direction. Carbines are only a small, relatively insignificant part of LE but its an excellent indicator of how much a department trusts their officers and the amount of discretion and responsibility given to each one. It shows how much you are valued that they are willing to take care of you like that. Plus from the other stuff you've mentioned about your department, they appear to be filthy stinking rich and swimming in extra budget money that they use you lavishly spoil you. But im sure thats typical of most departments. |
Honolulu, HI.
Our department is one of the larger departments at around 2200 sworn for a population of just over 1 million for this island. The pay here isn't really the greatest especially when you factor in cost of living in Hawaii. Our division is a full time dedicated SWAT teams and our department ensures that we always get the most up to date training, which we are thankful for. We do happen to have a pretty good budget and get to travel often to get guys certified as instructors in just about everything. We also bring in many classes to teach here in the islands. We run a certified NTOA, 8 week SWAT school about once a year. We cover the entire pacific region and include outer island officers and we invite Military HRT and often times some of the local Fed guys may attend certain blocks of training. As far as the vehicles go, after about 7 years you are allowed to purchase certain vehicles that are subsidized by the city. You get a monthly payment plus gas, oil, insurance and paid taxes. They install lights, radio, siren and computer. It is a good deal for us and the department. I love my job here but there are sacrifices for living in Paradise and being on an island isn't for everyone. No big deal for me as I travel often and love it here. No better way to get killed trying to get to it or put select fire inthe hands of crooks
