Would like to know what different departments Rifle Qualification Courses of Fire are. I assume most are a close quarter drill of some sort. Any long range stuff? Most of my old department's stuff is move and shoot and nothing farther than the 50 yard line. All longer stuff is handled by the sniper .308 stuff. The old course had guys starting at the 100, run to the 50, get prone behind cover, engage multiple pepper poppers, move to the 25, repeat. Run to the 15, engage cardboard targets while moving up to the 5 yard line. Any one else have something similar? |

We have two 25 shot courses: a 100 yard qual and a 25 yard qual. The 100 yard qual consists of timed shots at 100, 75 and 50 yards, all at center mass. Positions include prone, intermediate (sitting, squatting) and kneeling (braced and non-braced). The 25 yard course consists of timed shots at 25, 15, 10 and 7 yards, some at center mass and some at the head. I think the longest time allowance during the 25 yard course is 4 seconds, and most are 2 seconds, all with at least 2 shots.. Positions include standing and kneeling. Each series of shots starts with the shooter standing at low ready, so part of the time allowance for the shot includes getting into a prone, intermediate and/or kneeling position. Each qual is 250 points, so 10 possible points per shot. At the 25 yard course, any shot that misses the silhouette is an automatic disqualification. At the 25 yard course, 5 total shots are in the head, and any extra shots in the head (from a center mass shot) is a 0, and any head shot that is the body is a 0. At 100 yards, both the 5 and 4 ring are counted as 5, 3 ring is 3. At 25 yards, each ring in the body is scored as-is, but head shots are scored with a 5 ring shot as a 5 and a 4 ring shot as a 3. The 100 yard qual course is done at the initial class (50 hour class) and annual inservice (10 or 20 hour class...I forget). The 25 yard course is done tri-annually during normal range quals. 90% is passing, no exceptions. |
