Like many others posting on this forum, I am an aspiring law enforcement officer.  I currently have three applications active.  My question pertains to the starting date.  I am guessing it varies by department, but on average, how long was it from the date that you were offered a job that you starting working/the academy.

There is an academy starting on the 5th and the 11th of next month and I am hoping/expecting either an offertory phone call or rejection letter this week or next.

Thanks

You can expect to get hired when you get your head out your bunghole buddy!  I heard you're a real gun nut and that won't cut it when the day comes that you have to grab guns from helpless citizens.  You should not apply to New Orleans or NYC or Chicago or any other gun-hating police departments.  In fact, you would be better off tracking down illegals in Arizona on your own time bub.

I was called by the hiring authority saying I got the job on a Thursday and started the academy the next Monday.  It was a complete surprise!  I'm still with the same department six years later.

What the fuck does this mean?  Stay out of BOTS forum and take this crap to GD.  Oops....don't want to get between two friends and some good natured ribbing!!

To the original poster....it varies from department to department.  Some hire quickly and some take months.  For my department from application to hire is usually a few months....if we have any openings.

County of ~130, my experience...

Started Testing Process --> Conditional Offer = 8 months
Conditional Offer --> Official Job Offer = 2 weeks
Official Job Offer --> Starting Date = 1 week
Starting Date --> Academy = Depending on when academy is held, in my case: 1.5 months

Obviously each department will be different...  I'll be graduating from the academy almost exactly a year to the date I turned in my application.

Thanks for the input. Just wanted to get an idea on what type of timeframe to expect.

Also, don't worry about EHOLUB, he's just likes to give people sh1t.  I give him plenty back, too, so it is not a big deal
