Started the Basic Crime Scene Investigator course today.  Instructor seems to be VERY knowledgable but the manual leems lacking, not because of content, but because of the layout and organization.

Any recommendations on a basic manual that has an index to make looking up specific topics easier?

Instructor is from South Florida.  Like I said, seems like a great guy, lots of exp, I just want a book that is more "user friendly".

IPTM or Miami-Dade course?

I can recommend any crime scene book by Henry Lee.  I would tell you a title, but mine is loaned out at the moment and I can't remember the exact title.  They are pricey (about $75 each) but very comprehensive.  Dr. Lee is the guru of crime scene processing.

CSI is interesting.  I worked that before I moved on to investigations.

I took the IPTM 40-hour course in Jax.  Good course, but like you said the manual left something to be desired.

Neither one.  I guess he is an Independant Instructor.  He teaches out in LA quite a bit, including foreign LEO's.

I just looked at my partners manual and it looks quite good.  It's from a Retired Jacksonville area LEO.  Maybe I'll just get a copy of his.
