Put in my application 3 years ago to become a FLEO and I finally got the call.  Shipping out soon for the academy.  Anyone have any advice I'm all ears.  Stuff to take, prep work, anything.

Top secret huh??

As far as we know then, you could be working for the TSA as a screener then!

BTW, is the missing "L" in your post a clue?

Are you from Farmington?  Do you know Bill Hall?

Sure do.  And you've answered my question I guess.  As for preparation for the academy, I'd concentrate on your physical training.  You will learn the book stuff, regs, sop's, law, etc.  If you enter at a high level of physical proficiency, it will make everything else that much easier.  Find yourself a good endurance type workout and stick with it through the academy and after.

Where you going?

FLETC?

Artesia?

Is the Academy over a month?

Are you staying in side the place?

Or in a hotel outside?

If you are in FLETC, go to Sally's Cop Shop right in front of FLETC; cool place with great stuff.

If not, then just work on physical training and read everything they give you; you'll probably be given a laptop with study software; don't use it to watch Pr0n on the computer, they kicked a guy out of the academy in a class previous to mine for that.

Bring your own for that.

No guns on campus, except the plastic one they give you (I brought mine anyways, kept it in the car and told nobody about it. So did my buddy, who was in the same class as I did; imagine that 2 loaded 45s with plenty of ammo).

Save your money for the weekends, if you go to FLETC, I suggest you go to the Islands; plenty of bars and lots of girls out there; you'll have fun. We sure did

Good luck and have fun.

Hopefully you have already been doing your PT if you are leaving soon...

Anyway-

1) Keep your head down.
2) Focus on graduation day.
3) Have fun.

When I was in the academy, all I wanted to do is graduate and get out in the field. Now I'd give anything to go back for six months of just lifting, running, shooting and getting fed every day. Easy.

Congrats and good luck.

Enjoy pushups, situps and 1.5 mile runs for the next 16 weeks.
Better you than me.

Are you kidding me? That's like a run around the office and back to your desk. Got to love those cushy fed jobs. Often when the agents did ride a long in LA we would get into a vehicle chase, then foot pursuit. Several times we had to back track to locate them because they couldn't keep up. I guess the 6-7 mile a day runs we did in the 7 month academy paid off. The agents were polite though.

AFAIK, they are still using cooper standards based on age/sex. Not exactly HSLD, but then  again, you don't see run of the mill 1811's scaling fences after crackheads.

Shouldn't the focus be on "PAPERWORK & Stats?  Never seen so much redtape for a simple buy or running around lookin to make a case before.
