| I am a full time, sworn leo. I want to purchase some mags from another leo. The mags are stamped "for law enforcement use only". I will be making this purchase without letterhead. Any legal issues here?? |

There no LE Only firearm that I can think of, other than class three (fully auto/select fire), which is open to any "Joe" with a tax stamp. As far as the mags, make sure you check with your department. You don't want to be caught up with Inspections when they want to know where the extra mags came from. (If you know what I mean) |

I believe you can purchase a Restricted LEO marked weapon such as an AR-15 from another officer with no problems. However, if I were selling you mine, I would want a letter just to CYA (mine of course). Firearms distributors, dealer, and LE Suppliers will need to have a letter should you purchase one new. I am not totally sure though about needing a letter to buy a privately owned LE AR from another person. I am sure someone will post the appropriate response. |
| Holy cow, I complete forgot about LEO marked AR's. LEO marked AR's are similar to LEO marked mags in that, nobody has a real clue as to what's going on. Technically you never own a LEO marked anything. They are yours to use while you are on the job. When you retire, they may be "gifted" to you. Now for the real world. They are out there. Some FFLs/Gunowners will sell them only to people with the proper credintials. This will vary from Department Letterhead, to a copy of your ID, depending on who you deal with. On the other hand, a LEO marked AR built "PostBan COmpliant" is just a regular AR. Does this mean that Joe Sho, average citizen won't get hasseled for haveing an LEO marked AR that is postban compliant? Hell no. like I said, no one has a real clue as to what's going on, so chances are it will be confiscated, sent to BATFE and THEY still won't have a clue. Again, check with your department about having these because, again, you don't want to have your pention on the line because you have to explain why you have a LEO marked AR/Shotgun/magazine sitting in your closet. |
