Well, we are going through our CALEA review. Our shotguns that are not being used are secured but the action can be worked. Does anyone have an idea what type of chamber block/flag that might be out there?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my Deputy Chief is asking me!
Thanks...

Is immoblizing the actions of stored shotguns a CALEA standard now?

does it have to secure the action or just indicate an empty chamber?  If an empty chamber indicator will work, check this product out. I looked at them at Gunstock and picked up the LEO package they put together for work.
Very well made and a lot more rugged then the all plastic ones.

My DC said preventing a round from being chambered while the shotgun is secured in the station is required. My simple thinking is that policy already says the gun must be stored empty and action open...just by looking you can see its empty...rack all you want...
Thanks.

Maybe change out the mag followers for the bright orange ones. Action open..it's very obvious there is no round in the mag or chamber. Those saftey rounds are very noticable, the only problem is, they are designed to be ejected when you cycle the action.

Really!?!  We are Calea certified, and have no such device.  Well, I guess we dont have any shotguns, to issure out except for less-lethal.  But they are not secured.  All we do is empty the weapon, slide the action forward, so the chamber is empty than load the shells.  I dont remember calea having that be a standard.  Cable locks should work, you can probably contact one of the companies to have them all keyed the same

WOOPS quoted the wrong man, oh well you get the idea

We are in the middle of accreditation right now. I have found that many stupid ideas get pushed around because "CALEA requires it," which it doesn't.

I had 30-some standards I was responsible for. read the standard that they say "requires" that unused weapons be flagged (ours are racked, and that is it). If I recall, there has to be a policy that syas that weapons are sfaely stored, and that officers are instructed on safe storage of weapons. That is pretty simple, and we satisifed the standard by issuing all officers a letter of instruction from the Firearms Committee with some safe storage information/directions. Chamber flags or locks are NOT required.
