Brothers, A friend of mine recently failed his psych because he wasnt "mature enough." The Psychologist said that he participated in the viewing of porn too often. Has anyone else heard of this? That surely cant be a sole reason to deny someone. |
Oh, yes it can.  Most agencies look REALLY hard at the Psych eval. It's a "make or break" kind of deal. Have the SLIGHTEST little quirk and it's bye bye.

LOL...shit I'm screwed then with trying to get on with this new agency if they ask that questions. The other psych tests I've had they harped on the fire thing. I was like yeah I played with fire as a kid who didn't. Apparently serial killers, most of them, started out playing with fire. |
There is proof that all serial killers as a kid did all of the following. Wet the Bed, Tortured Animals, and Played with fire. Now that's not to say that all people that do these things are Serial Killers. But all serial killer do these things |

I "failed" the psych test for the police academy a few years ago. It was the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory one. They said I was "unacceptable" because the results said I had an explosive temper and acted without thinking. Also there were indications that if I was under a lot of stress I would turn to addictive substances like drugs or alcohol to cope. I told the woman that "read" the tests if one of those was true I shouldn't be working where I am. If all of them were true it would have got me killed a long time ago. She asked where I worked and I told her I was a correctional officer. There was a long pause on the phone and she said.."oh, well this test is for police officers not correctional officers"!  I talked to the head of psychology at work about the test because they use it. I asked him if you could do an accurate psych profile on someone based on the results of that one test. He said no. That test is one of the tools used in the process. |

| The key to a psych tests is to lie. If you think you can get away with downplaying things, realize you won't. When they ask you how much you drink, you'll say "Well its only on the weekends, so not that much", they take this as "I am a drunkard". Or if they ask you if you ever hurt yourself you'll say "One time I punched the wall out of anger" and they will write down "Self mutilation". Lie and you'll be A okay. |

The results of the first psych eval I ever took contained the conlusion "Subject is psychologically suited for a career in law enforcement." Notice, it does not say "Sane" or "Normal". Somehow I get the feeling that if this profile had not been part of the police selection process, the conlcusion would have contained the words "Psycho", "Nuts", and "Not right in the head."  Dave |

Sane people have to lie on written psych tests. Heck, on one of the oral ones I had to make up a story to the head shrinker wanna-be about the last time I was in a fight with my parents and another about a fight with friends. I sure as hell couldn't think of one for either case and he wasn't taking that for an answer. I had a quick answer for the last fight with a girlfriend though...hahaha |
