Well, here we go. My CPL got promoted to SGT so our Dept. announced a position opening for CPL. There are only two of us who qualify so it's not like I have to compete against a bunch of folks. In fact, the other officer is a super officer, the kind you don't mind being passed over by. We both have the same time "on the job" but he has been with our Dept. three years and I have only been there eight months. I transferred from SC to my current Dept. with 20 months experience as a Patrol CPL and although not LE related, I also included in my letter of intent my 14 plus years supervisory experience while in the Army. That coupled with my BS degree I feel gives me a fighting chance. I love working for my SGT who was also my previous CPL and if I get promoted I won't get to work for him but if I get passed over, I can still stay his shift. Kind of a win-win for me I guess.
