The 11 oclock news tonight reported that Police Officer Jim Simone of the Cleveland Police department was shot while conducting a traffic stop on Cleveland's west side.  I have known PO Simone for about 12 years and he is as straight an arrow as they come.  Early reports are that he was saved by the vest and is currently at the hospital.  No word on the animal that attacked him although the news speculated that he was in custody.  Report was that Simone pulled over a car for a traffic violation when the driver exited and started firing on him.

For those who remember the series Top Cops from the 90s, Simone was featured for an event in the Early 80s.  Simone had responded to a burglary at a church and while conducting the building search was fired upon by the burglars.  After being critically hit 3 times Simone returned fire and killed both suspects. He of course recovered from his injuries and refusing disability chose rehabilitation returning to full duty to serve to present.  Our prayers are with PO Simone and we hope that his attacker is now realizing the error of his ways.  Will update if I hear more.

An update was on the newpaper website this afternoon.  Apparently PO Simone was not shot as previously reported.  He thought that he was as the suspect was waving a revolver and he felt a sharp pain in his chest.  He has been checked out and released from the hospital as of this morning.  The suspect brandishing a revolver was killed at the scene.  The suspect was originally being persued as a suspect DUI suspect.  This just shows that pointing a gun at the cops for being stopped for something so minor in the grand scope of things is utterly stupid.

It was Jim Simone, so that part should be obvious.  It turns out that Simone was actually hit in the chest by a ricochette when one of the other guys fired after the suspect pointed the gun at them.
