got a call to cut cuffs off of a guy a the PD
first thought is why? he probably deserved to be cuffed, leave um on get there, its one of the recruits, lol those cuffs are pretty strong, had to use our mini hydraulic cutter to snip um off |
| When I was a new boot, trying to work my new cuffs in, I slapped both side of a pair on one wrist...with the key holes facing each other. Luckily I was able to just barely fit the key in to undo my horrendous F up. Needless to say, I got lucky and never made that mistake again! |

not sure of the make, but one of the cops said it was a good set of cuffs, brand new as well, and the key just wouldnt work
deff wanted to fuck with him, but my boss can be stale, so ya, that didnt happen i think we could have cut his arm off and he wouldnt of cared, as long as we didnt mess up his upper arm sleeve, lol |
Almost had that happen at my Academy. Switched from issued SWs to Pearless. They were hard as nails to put on properly and allot didn't come off. The instructors kept saying it was operator error, until he got someone stuck and couldn't get them off.
recalled the pearless, issued SWs |

If they were regular cuffs, all that was needed was a paperclip, why the need to use cutters? I've been practicing my cuff picking. I got shimming down pretty well (in front of me anyway). But I can't get ANY of my cuffs to pick. I've got Safariland and peerless. I've watched the videos using a bobby pin. I even bought one of those clear training cuffs. The issue is that with the clear cuffs (and all the ones I see on youtube) they use a cuff where the keyway tab hole is pointed at the wrist. Mine all point 90 degrees clockwise, so the piece of the ratchet arm that the key engages is 180 degrees from the tab notch. Bobby pins don't even fit in that side. So I guess mine are harder to pick, which is good. Of course now that I know the trick, berets and bobby pins go in a property bag when transporting. The first time I was shown in training how to shim cuffs, that night I got a call out at 1am to pick a defendent up from a patrol officer and transport him to prison. I kept hearing the chain on the cuffs jingling and I was thinking "son of a bitch, he's picking his cuffs". He didn't, but it made me more paranoid about it, which is probably a good thing. |

Watch out for the small size spring binder clips too.The handles can be unclipped and function as keys in some cuffs. http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/image/Staples/s0037512_sc7?$splssku$ Quoted:

And yes, the small one's come apart and work pretty well. |

Just had to cut off another set of pearless cuffs This time it was on one of the officers that a recruit cuffed in training. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile
Sounds like some preventative maintenance is in order. To have two sets of cuffs fail within less than a week is abnormal. |
