any of you guys have experience with this system?
http://www.locution.com/ we just got this at my paid dept, was in the works for a few years by our former chief (mark carr if any of you have heard of him......) so far, i think it sucks. cant understand the automated voice, and its programmed to modify our response, ie, ladders going on medicals before engines, hell the shift commander was dispatched to a medical, 1 and 1 for high rise alarms ( used to be 3 engines and a ladder) but a full assignment for a smoke detector in a single family. and a dispatcher still comes over the air to tell us what the call is. the list goes on seems like its main goal is to reduce trucks going to calls, and reduction of staffing over the years if any of you guys are in positions of importance, id advise to stay away from this system |

we are testing for our county a system call I am responding. they allow you to show staffing levels, whom is out of town or showing up for the call and turn by turn directions, dispatch can also pull it up and look to see whom is going or if they need to respond additional units from other town, track vehicle maintance or out of service. they can also leave messages for us as well like ex bridge is currently under water please use route ex 1234.
I really like it but it does have it draw backs its more time consuming for dispatch and requires really 2 dispatchers to operate it. and you need a dedicated laptop and monitor to see the information. I can take a pic of our setup if interested. |

Shit, half the time,we can't understand our "human" dispatchers. They could name the street you live on and we'd be looking at each other "What the fuck did she say?". Thank god for our printer. Stay safe my brothers and sisters. This, i don't know what kind of mic they have at dispatch, but it sounds like they talk through a cupped hand, or have a big foam ball stuffed over the end of the mic. |
