Do you think most cops are for or against gun control -- do you think it has something to do with where the cop lives and works?

I am not a cop. So I probably don't belong here. But I imagine that when a nut job has one you got to wonder. I'll tell you one thing though. I get tired of all the cop bashing that goes on. I hear it all day at work. After some asshole gets a knock on the head or shoots, and hits a cop ,and the cops shoot back.

I work with thugs at times. And the rest are to damn immature to understand that although there are bad cops. Most are out there everyday and experiance amounts of disrespect and bullcrap that would have any normal person ready to beat the hell out of the big mouth. Funny thing is most the time they don't.

Do I get pissed if I get a ticket. Yeah. But I usually broke the law.

And I don't ever howl with delight when a cops gets hit. Never. I suspect the same howlers also howl about the nutty gun lovers.

It will be interesting to hear what cops have to say. I guess it cuts both ways for them.

Okay off the cops jocks now. No more to say. I just wanted to throw that in. Thanks for watching after my family when were sleeping guys.

Thanks for the support. Its posts like yours that instill some hope in our society.

I personally detest any adminstrations attempt to take a fundamental right of citizens. The current problem isnt a gun problem and most, if not all, of the officers I work with agree with me. They would also agree that is important for everyone to have the ability to defend their harth and home. Military weapons are what gave us our freedom and it is the only way we will keep it.

I personally don't know any cops that support gun control.  And I know a lot of cops.

I know they are out there and do exist.  But, I don't know any of them.

I know one guy who is a firefighter and he is a liberal.  Nice guy but liberal political beliefs.  Since he's been a firefighter and has started seeing the shitty side of people, he's starting to think more conservatively.

Most liberals are actually pretty nice people.  They just don't live in reality.  In most liberals minds, most people are nice and good and want to do the right thing.  They just don't understand how evil human beings are capable of being.

I would imagine it depends on the type and size of the agency.  I could see a very large city agency having a larger group of more liberal thinking cops.  I work for a fairly large Sheriffs Office, most are very pro gun, pro second amendment. There's a few tools that think only cops are responsible enough to have guns and protect other people. Ironically they'll be the ones most likely to have a locker room pop or shoot themselves in the foot at the range.

I think by and far the majority are pro gun. It's funny how many I'm finding out just how passionate they are with all the talks about possible assault weapons bans. Guys who I had no idea where such gun nuts too.

The two posts above this one are spot on.  There are some significant differences depending on where you are.  Cops in Philly or NY are far more likely to be pro-gun control than say your average Texas copper.  But even then, I'd bet you could find some gun grabbers in Austin.

Personally, I don't know too many, and I know a lot of cops.  But I don't work in a liberal shithole either.

This thread is a dupe...

but most officers are against gun bans as they know how things really work out there (criminals don't care about bans, they work shootings were people lawfully defend themselves) but its not like the media or politicians are going to listen to or even care about what the average beat cop has to say.

I have several friends and family that are LEO.
All are extremely pro 2A.
They also apreciate those that carry CCW.

Do not worry the vast majority are on our side.

Most of the guys I work with are very vocal about how they think the current proposals that Governor Quo-homo is floating are dumb and unwarranted.

The Sheriff is a fellow FFL. Most of the guys have a variety of personal firearms, unlike big cities where the urban LEOs often only possess their duty gun.

Most of the guys I work with are pro gun. We talk about it often, and loathe the idea of taking guns from people.

On the other hand, one of our sergeants told me about a new gun shop that opened in his zone. Said "They don't need all that crazy shit they got in there." I didn't bother to reply, because I've busted his chops in public over less. He gets his feelings hurt pretty quick, but I know without a doubt that if he were told to go grab guns he'd lead the charge.

And he'd likely be alone.

I was told TODAY in roll call, by a ranking LEO  AND a senior LEO, that ALL assault weapons should only be available to the military

and to LEO. I asked why, knowing full well there is never any debate with these two and I would never win.  The answer?  NOBODY

uses them to hunt with or to target practice with.

I have a doctors appointment later today...probably going to need stitches.

I bit my tongue so hard, it started bleeding.

The problem becomes, what happens in places like NY, NJ, IL etx where LE either goes along or gets another job?  Well it's pretty clear to me what happened in say, CA.  Tough choice between feeding your kids and doing something you are opposed to doing ethically.  But we see it has happened in these other stats, so what makes anyone think it won't happen in the rest?

I can't find a single LEO in my municipal department or at the county who would go collecting guns...

As to other uses, anyone see how the University of Kentucky now has a 3 gun team with ARs?

This is my experience.

If a cop was a "gun guy" before he/she became a cop, then they're good with EBR's and civilians and all that.  He/she knows that he'll one day retire and still want to buy cool stuff.  Or, he wants stuff that they might not be able to get letterhead for.

If however, like female Feds or whatever, they never had much experience with firearms before they got their badge, then they take a more holier-than-thou take on the Second Amendment.

Of course, regional mindsets play a role also.

I work for a larger department, so i'm sure there are a few anti's.  But I have yet to meet them, or they have yet to reveal themselves.  All right wing and pro 2nd at my sub including sergeants.

Didn't know this, but is just another reason why I love the Commonwealth.

I'm a retired cop and those who say cops in favor of control are NOT speaking in my behalf. I am AGAINST it.

I wanted to pass on some good news. The president of our local FOP lodge allowed me to distribute fliers and present information about the barrage of proposed anti-gun legislation at our meeting on Thursday night. I made a motion to send the national and state FOP Presidents a letter stating that "Our lodge does not support any gun legislation proposed by Senator Feinstein as well as any other ban or restriction that abridges the rights of law abiding Americans". I am proud to say that all of the members present were in favor of sending letters which contained the above language to not only the state and national FOP Presidents but to Sen. Feinstein as well as our Ohio senators and congressmen.

"Liberals are good people"  Don't know about that but they sure are stupid.  Truthfully, I have a few left leaning issues that I respect, but those issues would never override the Second Amendment and the Constitution.  I guess I don't understand what part of the Second Amendment the Supreme Copurt ruled relates to the people that these so called liberals do not understand.

BTW, I am not a cop, but I made one in a Holiday Inn 30 plus years ago.
