| Hey all just wanted to know what you guys like to use as far as entry tools. What do you like about the ones you have, and more important what do you not like. First let me say that I am a LEO. My info has been sent to [email protected] and it is pending approval. I can tell you that my unit was issued a dynamic entry ram and it sucks. We had a guy build us a new one for less than half the cost of the de ram, and it works 10x's better. The slam that we had made is a one hit entry almost every time. For some reason the DE ram would never get the door open on the first hit. Both are approximately 31lbs. Any way we are going to have this guy make us some more tools. We are looking to make them lighter. For the most part a halligan tool is way too heavy for just a locked screen door. Give me your ideas please. |

Our patrol guys don't carry any of that in the trunk. There are tools in the armory, that one of the sgt. has access to. SWAT dudes have the big rams. If I can, I have FD smash doors, since it's less paperwork for them. Must be nice o have the FD do it. Any time we have a medical call and the FD needs to force entry, they make us do it. I don't understand why either, they have the tools for it. Any time we do it of course we have to pull a case # do a report and take photos of the damage so the home owner can bill the city. I have been thinking of getting a few things to keep in the trunk, a 4lb sledge and bolt cutters. |

The fire guys just leave a card with a number to call for claims. About two years ago I had a welfare check on a diabetic lady that didn't show up where she was expected had no phone contact for 24 hrs with anyone. The door frame on her apartment was steel. Fire guys popped it open like a soda can, in less than a minute. The lady was out, but lived, so it was worth it. And I don't rag too bad on the FD, because they help a lot. |
