I need a chest rig for patrol and need some help picking something out.

I am gonna go to our Depts carbine class next month and need a way to carry spare mags. Most seem to prefer the chest rig to the thigh rig.

Some have said to get the molle panel and buy the pouches separately and some have recommended the premade rigs.

Do you guy with any experience with these things have any suggestions? Any chance of getting a decent rig for $75 or less?

One of the SKD/Eagle Universal rigs would run great for what you're wanting and not break the bank.  They also have an active shooter rig but its just a bit more than you're wanting to spend.

What type of set up will you be using or be allowed to use on the road?

Specter

Are you planning on using this for actual patrol response to an active shooter? Nothing wrong with it but you may want to look at getting a plate carrier for this duty.

Some guys like the redi mag for having two magazines on the gun in case thats all they have time to grab for.

Some like a bandoleer for mags and stuff like medical kits and chem lights etc.

I think you will find out what works and what does not a few hours into the class and some experimentation. As the above poster said will you be allowed to wear this gear on the road? If not you probably should look at somthing like a grab and go bag and a redi mag.

I would be able to use it on patrol. Plates and a carrier are just way out of the budget. I had been looking at the Eagle stuff. Think I may focus on that.

i have gone with both chest rig platforms, and recently i have switched to a leg rig.

one isnt better than the other, its just personal preference.

i used to run an HSGI chest rig, that carried ar mags, shotgun shells (just a few) and an IFAK.

now its just a blackhawk leg rig, that carries 4 ar mags, and has a fastex buckle to put it on quickly.  the femaile end is on my duty belt, under my radio carrier all the time.

then, i just grab my maxpedition versipack that has first aid, and some other cool guy stuff in it.

Are you looking for an exterior carrier with Molle or something with Molle you can throw on over your uniform in an emergency in order to have some ammo/firepower?

We I ended up having some money left in my uniform allowance that I didn't know about. We are able to get 5.11 stuff at a discount and use our allowance to pay for it. Got a molle panel a 4 mag shingle and a 2 mag shingle. Will add 2 smaller puches (flashlight, pistol mags, etc) after I decide what else I need. Not ideal but free!!
