Kinda of random, but it'd be interesting to see what everyone gets paid an hour.

Figuring what I actually take home from my paycheck and how many days I work a month, I make $13 an hour. That's with no off duty gigs.

Since we are salaried, no overtime.

ETA: To list position: Patrol Deputy.

Umm...what do you do for a living? I currently earn about $23.00 per hour and that is considered pretty low here in NY.

Is that 13 take home?  Or 13 before taxes, insurance, and everything else comes out?

Cause hourly I'm $27 something an hour, but if you actually base it on what I get to bring home after taxes, insurance, and with-holding, it comes out to around $18 an hour.

Insurance is killing me.

Back in Cali before I left I was making around $22 but that was in a more rural area.

I had a buddy who worked for a really small department there who made around $11 an hour, it's all about your cost of living where you are and if you can afford to live on what you make.  I had buddies who worked in the bay area (San Fransisco) that made anywhere from $50-$80 an hour, not including the overtime, but the cost of living was insane.

Just graduated college, looking for a 'real' job.  Still working at my job I had in college.  I studied Finance/accounting.  Hoping for a small raise in pay at my first job, then looking to start studying for the CPA exam.  That's where the real pay raise should be.

Wait, you live in ND, and you're NOT working at an oil field??? Every able-bodied worker from my area is over there now, making right around $18/hour working for Haliburton.

$22.75 in Northern VA before taxes.

I'm going on 6 years at my agency and haven't had a raise in 3 years.

They say we'll be looking forward to a raise this year. But I'm not holding my breath. I do enjoy knowing that Lateral Transfers are making more money with less experience (one to two years).

Hard to say with me and my schedule.

I make, on paper about 34K.  However, I get
9 hours of comp time a month too.  Which my
bretheren at 8 hour units don't get...Which is
cool.

Texas, despite the brilliant captaincy of Rick Perry
doesn't do overtime.

About $35.00/hr. gross pay per hour.......approx. $27.00/hr. after taxes.........OT and Court time paid at time and a half.

Starting pay is about $42,000.....Gross Salary of a Patrolman after 15 years is about $72,000 a year.  They cut our staffing levels by about 20% so we are running short handed.....OT has been running rampant for a couple of years now because of it.  Last 2 years in a row I made just shy of $100,000.  Taxpayers here a screaming at the local Muni. Gov. about it.  Now they are going to cut another 6% of our staff and pay more OT, they say it is cheaper than hiring. They are running us ragged just to keep shifts staffing levels filled.....and at bare minimum shift staffing we a running our tails off.  We keep telling them that it is going to be a safety issue......in the last couple of weeks we have lost 3 Officers to injuries, 1 hurt his knee chasing a perp after jumping a ditch, young kid just got hired- he needs surgery,  1 broke his hand fighting 3 guys on a traffic stop - just had surgery, they had to put pins in his wrist and hand,  1 Patrol Lt. hurt his back while assisting the later as back up and may be done for good.

My area of NY is NO WHERE NEAR as expensive to live as downstate = LI/NYC area.

Around here you can live in a good middle class neighborhood on a cops salary.  Example I'm a 1 income household, I'm the breadwinner, Mom stays home with the kids.  We have a 2200 Sq/ft Ranch home w/ 2 1/2 car garage on a 1 acre lot.  = $200,000.  problem is we pay $5800 a year in property taxes.  Out of that local Municipal taxes make up about $1000 which covers Police, Fire, EMS, Highway dept, Recreation/parks, Garbage P/U and local .Gov positions.  The rest is Dictated by the State: $3000 for public schools which 85% of that is mandated by the State, the other $1800 goes directly the County to pay all the NYS entitlement programs.

Most 1 bedroom apartments in Suffolk are not even close to $1800 a month. I was recently renting a 3 bedroom in Suffolk for $1200.

I just started last week (in the academy currently). I'm making $20.30 right now (pre-tax). There's eight levels in total, but for a snapshot- I'll be making $23.88 after two years, and we cap out at $26.55 (which I'll reach after 8 years w/ a Bachelor's degree). Cost of living in the area is quite reasonable too.

8.25 hour days with 5/2/5/3 schedule.

The city covers the employee portion of the Wisconsin retirement fund contribution (and reports it as such) and I'm only responsible for 10% of the premiums for a very nice health insurance plan.

They also work in extra pay in a few creative ways. 1% of base pay paid for maintaining firearm certification (which is a requirement for employment anyway). Longevity pay as a percentage of pay starts at 5 years and increases incrementally. Overtime and court time is time and a half. $50/month shift differential pay for starting after noon. Uniforms are paid for at hire; after probation you get $500/yr to maintain and replace as necessary.

New contract is in arbitration I believe. Don't know what that will bring. Not too concerned, I'll just be thankful to have a job.
