I just graduated the academy about a month ago and have had multiple PT tests, which I havent had an issue with up until this last one.  Its the standard 1 1/2 mile but its on a tiny tiny indoor track its 29 laps for that distance.  I have been getting consistant 11:20s and 11:30s on a regular highschool track but my times are considerably worse on this smaller track like 14:20.  Does anyone have any tips or strategies that can help me out?  I cant find a track similar at all in my area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I need to get it under 12:18.

Sounds to me like its just a timing issue so get a watch and time your laps.

You need to average nearly 2.5 laps per minute for the smaller indoor track vs 1 lap per 2min on a standard 1/4 mile track.

It sounds like maybe the short track is messing with your stride––all the turns are killing your speed. You might have to go NASCAR on it––sprint during the straightaways and slow down a touch on the turns.

Good luck! I hate running on little tracks (well, tracks at all) myself.
