I just signed a form in the packet I received for the FHP stating that I could be assigned anywhere in the state of FL and could not request a change for atleast a year. I live in Miami-Dade county, just wondering what the odds are that I'll be assigned elsewhere?

I don't know if this means anything anymore but a FHP Capt that taught a class I was in some years ago said almost all of the new rookies go to Miami after FTO because no one wants to stay there more than absolutely required.

When I was in in 1998, my entire class went to Miami or the Everglades.  A very few had hooks and gt moved quick.  The rest of us were stuck.  I had a "problem" since I was in the United States and demanded those I interacted with speak English.  My supervisors recommended I take a Spanish class off-duty to help.  I told them no way was I wasting my personal time, as I am an American in America, and we speak English; I told them I would however suggest that to my daily contacts.

There are many other agencies in Florida.  I suggest you look elsewhere.  All FHP wants are traffic violations.  Period.  Twelve a day was my quota in 1998.  I wanted to do real police work and kick in some doors, 911 jobs, etc... and left for the NYPD.  Best decision I ever made.

Dont know about Florida, but my first assignment in highway patrol was to a town I had never heard of.  1 year minimum before thinking of a transfer...

I'm a fluent Spanish speaker, but I understand and agree with your gripe. I'd actually prefer to stay down here because of family, friends, girlfriend etc. I'm well aware that FHP deals mainly with traffic (the title should give it away), but it's one of the few departments that are hiring around here.
