Arrrrrg! For the love of pete! My 6 year old son, who is a very heavy sleeper, yet would wake up at 1 or 2 am, pad down to the bathroom, pee, and go back to bed, has peed in his bedroom last night and again tonight. Not wetting the bed, but got out, dropped trousers and whizzed. Last night he peed on the side of his bed, comforter, carpet, and his two favorite stuffed animals. Tonight, within 90 minutes of me putting him to bed, I heard him moving in hir room and |

My nephew has done this (peeing in a room other than the bathroom while asleep) and my eldest has sleep walked/talked since he was a toddler. I believe my nephew only did it a couple of times...and it stopped. Reducing the fluids is a good idea. As far as the actual problem, sleep walking, the only thing you can do is safeguard him (be sure he won't fall down stairs, etc.) My son still occasionally sleepwalks, but not as often as he once did. He's almost eleven now. Also, I suggest a sleep study of your boy: we learned mine had apnea which had to be surgically corrected...twice. So he generally has uninterrupted sleep so long as he is not suffering from a cold or allergies (he's also on 3 allergy/breathing aids/meds). |
I can remember my little brother doing this once. One of the bathrooms in the house was situated off of the kitchen and laundry room.. well he got up one night and my mom and I were sitting in the living room watching tv. (i would always stay up and watch star trek with my mom) we see my little brother walk by and didn't think anything of it, next thing we know we hear the sound of water hitting the side of the washer, mom goes in there and my little bro his peeing on the side of the washer. It was pretty funny, then he just went back to bed. Kind of odd. I wouldn't worry too much about it. He should grow out of it.

Two things to remember try not to wake the child that is sleep walking as long as they are not hurting themselves or someone else you do not need to wake them up. Most kids that sleep walk grow out of it. Second limiting the amount of fluid is a great way to keep them from having an accident like the above mentioned situations. Three of the kids that I nannies did something similar to the above mentioned situations. I cut the fluid intake and this helped resolve the urinating in places they were not supposed to. |

OK we cut back on the fluids this evening, put him to bed at 820pm, and is now 920pm. If he does it will be soon. I moved all furniture, toys, books from between his bed and the bedroom door, the door is open, and I placed some large contractor type bags on the floor, not so much to protect it, but so I can hear his feet hit the floor as I am directly across the hall from my whiz-kid. |

Perhaps is it because he's a guy, and guys go where ever....when ever they want all the time! Seriously, I think he'll grow out of it, if he's as abounding with energy like my son all day, they crash HARD at night. I limit the liquids too, waterbeds get old...fast! Good luck! |

My Son and Daughter have both done it. She has been caught backing up into the frige and pantry trying to go. My Son you can hear him bumping around in his room trying to find the door so you have a bit of warning to get him into the bathroom. Now we leave his door open for him. We have put a small light on in the bathroom but that didn't seem to help with them. My Johnny has had problems with kidney stones so I can't really limit liquid intake so we just try to keep a ear open for him and catch him before he can go where he shouldn't. The past few weeks it's been better so maybe they have grown out of it. |

My son did it. He out grew it. He came in our bedroom one night dropped his pj bottoms and sat down in my computer chair ..I said "no Ben" took him by the hand, led him to the bathroom and he did his business and went back to bed. We cut down on how much he drank after supper and it helped too. |

Okay, having had this problem when i was a kid, and having been an athlete/trainer i would like to add some insight. Sleep walking is usually a sign that something is bothering him, might be a minor thing, just growing up stuff like trouble with kids at school, or might be major. Talk to a counsler about the sleep walking. As far as the urinating all over, he may be dreaming that he is in the bathroom already, after talking to a counsler this is what i discovered was my problem, i was about 9. My parents used to remind me to think about it as i was drifting off to sleep, and i would tell myself to think about it and after a few more mishaps, it actually worked! I was standing in front of the toilet, getting ready to go, and my sub conscious kind of kicked in and i asked myself, are you really hear? Or just dreaming it? right then i woke up and realized i was still in bed. After that night, it never happend again. As a former athlete/trainer i got to say, i totally disagree with cutting his fluids. Unless you are talking about diaretics, things with cafeine like soda, tea, coffee which will make him lose more fluid than he takes in. I would not cut his water, almost no one drinks enough water, it is especially bad for kids as they are growing, and need lots of water for proper kidney/liver function, remember, going #1 is a good thing, your body is getting rid of toxins, and all the garbage we put into it. without enough water he could have kidney problems, which could affect his growth. I wouldnt cut back his water, he probally doesnt get enough of that as it is. hope that helps. |
