Sorry first thought when I saw the Great Dane and your son, is one of the cartoons with the dog going all out and your son sailing through the air holding on to the leash. Best be ready in a few more years for your son wanting a 50BMG.

the kid knows if the dog starts to pull he lets go. He only gets to walk the dog once dog is super tired and probably wouldn't run after a t-bone steak if it was attached to a cat

he already loves big booms....
