Maybe you ladies can help me out on this. I sure could use a woman's opinion:

Marquise or Princess cut?

Some info:

In a 1 Carat diamond, a Marquise will "look" bigger.
The Princess Cut will provide more radiance.

It all comes down to personal preference.

Please let me know which you prefer and why.

Princess cut. That's what I have because I prefer square shapes and also thought it would snag less on clothes etc... I also had it bezel set for that reason (which probably doesn't show the stone off as nicely, but it's a lot easier for me to deal with).

The round cut gives off the most brilliance.

I personally like the marquise cut.  Just my preference.  I have short fingers and it looks more elegant.

I like both cuts, but prefer the marquise for myself.

no offense i say you asking the wrong girl...I think you should see what kind of jeweler she wearing now and style it like those. Also there a great website on it:

diamond info

If you doing it as a investment go with round cut.

It's more of a permanent thing.

The only way that it would be an investment is if I plan on selling it later... which I don't because I can't think of any reasons why I would have to sell it down the road... none of which are good.

Round is not an option. Thanks for the website, it has some good info.

what kind of stuff does she wear would be a huge help... Ask her friends but be caution because they might state what they like more then what she likes. Both beautiful rings though so i m sure you find perfect one.

I like both but picked a marquise cut myself.  Reason being it had 6 prongs compared to 4 and as active I was I wanted to make sure the diamond stayed on my finger.

Both are beautiful rings though.  Patty

If you are interested on a forum where women are all over diamonds, go to pricescope.
You also have knowledgeable sellers of jewelry there.
You need to know from the lady which she likes better. Maybe ask her best friend or even her mom. Good luck!!

ETA:
Because women love diamonds , i recommend to see the beautiful pics at this link.
Eye candy

Sorry, didn't mean to highjack this thread.

Ok, last question:

Does a woman's ring finger change size during her pregnancy? I've sized her and it fits perfectly right now, but I'm afraid that she might be able to wear it during/after the pregnancy. On the flip side, I don't want her ring to be twirling around her finger either.

Usually not much.  My ring size stayed the same as it was when I was 15.  However my hands would swell during my pregnancy through out the day [water retention] so I would keep my ring in my jewlery box except when I went out.

I like the princess cut too, but that's what my ring is, so I'm kind of partial

Round

until very recently its the only shape graded by the AGS

It's also cool if you get perfect symmetry you get arrows

also remember size is not the most important factor in diamond value.

a properly cut smaller diamond can easily appear larger then a poorly cut larger one since the size or carat is a measurment of weight.

poorly shape rough diamonds can be cut badly and be too deep having a higher carat weight but smaller table diameter

I could go on but then you would have no fun doing the research

Just a simple thought;  A diamond is about tradition and not current trend or style.  Round is, has been, and will always be what a diamond is looked to for.

Don't forget to get the LED mount to add brilliance!

heh.. Definitely grab her best friend.. even if you don't know her that well... and ask her.. my best friend knows what I think is the perfect ring, and I know hers... I know lots of ladies that have that policy... my mum knows too...

My personal preference isn't to diamonds, but I don't like the marquis cut... it's not for me though... so go with what she has...

Yes.

I had to have mine cut off, at one point. I have very thin fingers, and usually wear a size 4 on the ring finger. I had to change it to a 5 1/2 at that point.

Then after the last pregnancy, it would fall off all the time, and had to be resized back to a 4.

My ring size changed at the very end.  I just took it off for the last month.  But I could still wear my band.  Also, I like the princes cut but you need to check with those close to her first.  She may prefer neither.
