I have always wondered what the "correct" term is for the high-heel shoes that I see in all those classic films. I'm talking about WWII era, and they are much more round than those pizza shoes women like nowadays.

Here's an example from ebay:

I'll have to see if I can find a nice picture from my TCM recordings. Probably in Gilda.

Thank y'all for the replies. I don't want to incite a riot, but I just don't like the high-heels women wear nowadays. Anything with a thin heel is just... I don't know. I know why I don't like pointed-toe shoes, though: they are uncomfortable. Why would a woman go through the pain and anguish of wearing ultra pointy shoes just to feel good about themselves (not their feet) or try to look attractive? I guess the reason I have these feelings is because people in my family have wide feet, and I don't know why my mom wears those things and then complains when they hurt.

(I have a feeling I'm going to look like in a minute!)

Do any of you all have problems with wearing certain types of shoes?

I don't wear stilettos because they scare the crap out of me.  I'm not used to them, and I'm afraid I'll either roll my ankle or fall flat on my face.    Since

I usually wear a "stiletto/spike" heels. I like the thinner line, and I'm just used to them. I have a few pair, that I can actually RUN in...they are that comfortable.

What I CAN'T wear, is a pointed toe shoe. My feet are wide across the toe, and I have to wear an entire size up, to get those things ON.

A more classic, rounded toe works best for me.
