I just saw the History channel program, "The Works" on "Guns and Ammo." They claimed that all new guns sold are "registered with the ATF." I remember reading that the FBI must destroy the background check records within 24 hours of the purchase. The only thing they can do is trace the firearm to the original buyer, and to subsequent buyers if they must go through a background check, correct? And I remember reading that they do not have a computerized database of gun owners, right? And, even if a gun dealer turns over his 4473's if he goes out of business, they can only put those in a warehouse somewhere, rather than entering them into a computerized database. Am I accurate? |
Saw that too, apparently the magazine capacity of an M16/Ar15 style rifle is 13 rounds... . As is a 9mm Glock. Where did they get their numbers? Also the 19th century Gatling Gun had a 6000rpm firing rate. History Channel dropped the ball a little. Thought it was kind of cool of them to use a 20-something as a host, maybe open a few younger eyes. I liked the segment about how so many mundane daily items are derived from firearms technology: Pez dispenser, Singer sewing machines, Glock Curtain rods, disposable lighters... |
Do you think they might have been referring to "registered with the ATF....... by the mfr "? As in, relating to the way a mfr must serialize all firearms, and [I'm assuming] report that info to ATFE somehow? |
When I was explaining to my wife a few nights ago about how firearms work, when I got to the magazine, she asked "You mean like a Pez dispenser?" I just looked at her and said "By Jove, you're right!" |
