I don't have alot of knowledge about buying/selling firearms online but I was wondering if there was a good site out there for this. I am not interested in an ebay type where I have to bid with other people, with my schedule I do not have time to be on the internet 24/7. I did see something written on gunbroker.com and GunsAmerica.com, are they reliable? Any feedback would be great! |
| Have used gunbroker.com a couple of times with no problems at all. Recognize that you are dealing with individual sellers (could be an individual, or a gunshop/pawnshop etc) and each transaction has its unique risks. Gunbroker does a good job of ranking buyers and sellers based on their past performance. They apparently weed out the really bad ones, as I've never seen a seller with a really bad rap. I would get some additional input before dealing with gunsamerica. |
Ok that helps then, I am just tentative on buying from a person unless I am dealing with the face to face. If they are ranked though I don't see too many risks buying from a high rated seller. |

Be cautious, I find that a lot of Gunbroker and other auction sites do a poor job of weeding out the unscrupulous sellers. There is a lot of rather shady descriptions to be found on those sites. Also I've seen too much listing of firearms that don't really exist. |

Cl1ckClack, The way it works is you buy the firearm online and mail/send your money to the dealer, the dealer sends the firearm to a (FFL) Federal Firearms Licensed dealer near you (This is where the problem may occur since you're in Canada), you go to the dealer fill out a 4473 or whatever and take you firearm home. Sorry to rain on your parade but peperwork is always involved unless its face to face in you same state. |

Good advice for the Canadian. For others who may have a question like this and are living here in the U.S. - I have been purchasing weapons and parts online for many years. I have yet to get stiffed on anything except one guy who sold me a case for a weapon, and then the carrier delivered it to the wrong address. Could not get the person to file the claim and reimburse me, but it was only for about $35. If you pay for your purchase with a Postal Money Order, then you can file charges for Mail Fraud if they do not give you the item. If you use Paypal (you have to hide what the item really is) then you have protection as Paypal will reimburse you if you do not get the item. Some of the auction sites are Gunbroker.com and Auctionarms.com. You can also buy from boards like our EE board or from Sturmgewehr.com or Subguns.com or Gunsamerica.com. Reading on our board will usually identify unscrupulous dealers. There is also a lot of info on Subguns.com and they have a specific board for informing on unscrupulous dealers. You can post on our board and their board and ask if anyone has done business with the person you are dealing. This is helpful if the person has some kind of history, but it is not helpful if it is an individual who has not done much selling. Charles Tatum |
