Is it legal to carry a concealed firearm (with a CCDW license) in a U.S. Post Office?

I am an attorney, and if I were to be asked this question by a client, this is what I would say, but don't take this as legal advice.  I would ask an attorney in your area.

18 USC 930(d)(3)

§ 930. Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities

(d) Subsection (a) shall not apply to—
(1) the lawful performance of official duties by an officer, agent, or employee of the United States, a State, or a political subdivision thereof, who is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of any violation of law;
(2) the possession of a firearm or other dangerous weapon by a Federal official or a member of the Armed Forces if such possession is authorized by law; or
(3) the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.

Now, if we could just get them to define "other lawful purposes" we'd have something.

To me (not an attorney), carrying concealed with a CWP IS a lawful purpose.

Well, i didn't do a case search to see if 'they' have, but 'they' probably have.  just don't have the time to do it right now.  when i get some downtime, i'll try to find out.

Being a test case is rather pricey.

Fo shizzle.  That's why I use www.usps.com.  I don't go inside.

Alright, in my limited search, I have found roughly:

0 cases for concealed carry in a USPS

I did find lots of cases where someone was charged with 18 USC 930 of carrying in a usps, when they were robbing the facility.  I also found two EEOC decisions (equal employment commission) of postal employees being fired for carrying in a usps, but they weren't charged with anything.  Just terminated.

Take that for what it's worth.
