I'm in a debate with someone who thinks the death penalty is applied in a "racist and inequitable manner". If I have the FBI stats there won't be much he can argue with. Namely I've herd some here make the claim that while blacks make up only 17% of the population they commit 70% + of the violent crime. Can anyone here back that claim up? I went to the FBI site to locate crime stats compared by race but it seems all their stat tables are seperated by type of crime. Thanks |

You can't find a general figure because the makeup of the racial population differs by area and state. The term violent crime is also not a fair assessment of the categories. I can say this though, the black race accounts for 18% of our population, but the figures show 62% of the robberies and 63% of the murders are committed by the group. |
This is good info. You wouldn't happen to have a link to the stats would you? This way I could say "look it says it right here.". Thanks again |

The Virginia State Police Uniform Crime Reports break it down by age, race, sex, and relationship between victims and offenders. VSP UCR's for 1999-2005 Now you just need to find the Virginia stats on racial makeup of the state. |
