Here's a scenario....

If you take the thumbhole off your postban gun, does that make it illegal in that configuration. Say I removed my thumbhole from an AK because I was planning to build a 922R compliant gun. If I stored, or even sold it like that, would I be breaking the law?

922r has nothing to do with the ban.  

It is still in place, same as written in the opinion of 1998.  If you are converting a 922r gun, has to have 10 or less imported parts.  As to building, I can't tell you for sure but my opinion is that you had better not have it in working order with more than 10 imported parts and I'd have all my US parts on hand before I'd start on a conversion.


If you meet the 10 or less parts for 922r,  you can forget about the ban unless it would be state or local issue.
