Is it legal to sell, or to ship 20rd AR-15 mags to NJ?

Thanks, Craig

I thought there was a link that showed the states that were legal to ship mag's to? Can anybody show me where it is?

Thanks,Craig

I believe that NJ residents are restricted to owning magazines that hold no more than 15 rounds, but I won't swear to it.

I'm betting Googling "New Jersey" firearms, regulations, .gov will find it.

But then, that's just me.

Edited to add:

What's the buyer say? Have him send you a signed letter of the purchase. It's not your job to know the laws of another State. I also seriously doubt NJ would come after you.

NJ law states it is illegal to possess any magazine that holds over 15 rounds.  They may be temporarily blocked.  Of course, the possessor would be in violation from the receipt time to when he blocked them.

No law states that you can not sell them to a NJ resident.  It would be your call.  I personally wouldn't.

As a dealer, I wouldn't even sell already blocked mags for fear the buyer would unblock them, commit a crime, be found in possession and then I get charged or sued.

I guess with that logic you shouldn't be selling the rifle either for fear someone would cut the barrel down and commit a crime with an SBR or convert it to an illegal SAW configuration or MG.

Ship the magazines disassembled or block them to 15 rounds prior to shipping them.

The easiest thing for a dealer to do would be to just pop off the floorplate before you ship them. By Jersey definition a magazine is something that feeds ammunition, no mention of parts or anything like that. Maybe include a little note saying the buyer must block them before reassembly or something to that effect, for the extra CYA factor.

Why do you suppose that the major magazine retailers refuse to sell magazines over 15 rounds to NJ?  Why wouldn't they do as you say?  LIABILITY? Frankly, I wouldn't take the chance.

I understand why you and other dealers refuse to ship blocked +15 round magazines to NJ residents and of course you are within your right to do so. You do realize that if someone is going to sue you it won't make any difference what the magazine capacity is.  Once again I’m not faulting you for your business policy.
