I have a pre-ban 24" upper with a bayonet lug on the sight. It does have a muzzle break but was an ad on brazed.  Another feature on the upper is a barrel mount bipod that would block any bayonet use. The bipod is bolt mounted device. I also have a scope on the upper. Before I bolt her on and am off to the range, I am curious regarding the legal status bolted onto a post ban lower.

Technicaly is this a violation to put this barrel on a post ban lower?

When I asked the dealer I bought the upper from he advised because the bayonet won't work on a 24" barrel it isn't an issue but hey that's the dealer.

Question part two is if I grind the bayonet lug to non-functioning would that do the trick?  I'd rather not do that for cosmetic reasons but can.

It is obvious, I'm not after an illegal assault weapon for it is one monster upper in both length and weight.  My intent is to use as a long range target shooter but being anal retentive want to be squeeky clean.

Your input is appreaciated.

Grind it off, to be on the safe side. The law doesn't state if you can use a bayonet or not. It does mention the bayonet mount though.

Question part two is if I grind the bayonet lug to non-functioning would that do the trick? I'd rather not do that for cosmetic reasons but can.[red] This would be a very wise move. You should grind it sufficiently so it is just a "raised" flat spot on the sight/gas block[/red]
