I have combed through the fed and SC state laws for a couple days now and can not find an answer to this question. Any help is appreciated.
Defacing, removing, obliterating serial numbers and manufacturer/importer names is a no-no. That is 100% understoood. Doing the same with the city and state is not touched upon. The only thing i can find is that importers must have these markings on firearms they intend to distrubute. I can not find anything referencing the owner's lagality to remove it. I have a few firearms that i plan to ceracoat. The city and state markings are either painted on, or engraved so shallow, the paint will eliminate these markings. This is not an issue with the serial number or manufacturers name. They are either deep enough to not matter, or located in an area that is not being painted. Is it against federal law to deface the city and state of the manufacturer? Should/shouldnt opinions is not what i seek. Re-engraving is not what i seek. What the law says about it is what i am after. I have not asked the ATF because i dont want them cooking up some new "regulation" based on my question. |
