I know this might sound a little weird or what not, but I will explain...
I recently went to my local class 3 dealer and put a deposit down on two suppressors (a Kestrel 5.56 and a Kestrel 7.62) from huntertown arms.. As of right now, to the best of my knowledge - the suppressors have not actually been manufactured because of the backlog at huntertown arms. I of course knew of the backlog before I jumped head first into the idea of buying from huntertown arms.. I also have not filled out any NFA paperwork (form 4,etc...) at my local class 3 dealer as of yet since my suppressors have not yet been mailed to him. My class three dealer is the kinda guy who waits until he has the NFA item in hand before doing the paperwork... As of right now I would estimate that one of the two suppressors (the Kestrel 556) should be manufactured and shipped to my dealer sometime in the next two to four weeks from huntertown arms.. Here's where the problem / question comes in at.... As of right now, my family and I are considering moving to either Tennessee or Virginia - and the move will most likely happen *before* the suppressor(s) are in my possession (and possibly BEFORE the NFA paperwork is done / submitted) .. What do I need to do - should I find myself moving to either Tennessee or Virginia?? Okay - There's a second possible scenario here too - Instead of moving to either Tennessee or Virginia, I *might* get my wish about moving to either Johnson or Lawrence counties - here in Kentucky. As of right now, I am in Pikeville (Pike county) but as I said , moving to another county is possible instead of moving to either Tennessee or Virginia.. is there anything (forms / paperwork) that I need to submit to the ATF or anything I need to do (outside of the normal transfer procedures) if the suppressor comes in before I move ? Also - is it legal to for instance be a resident of Lawrence county, KY (for example) and buy a suppressor in Pike county, KY ? Btw - I am buying these suppressors as an individual, not as a corporation or on a trust.. Just an individual. thanks in advance! |

An in-state move won't pose any problems. Just make sure you can get a CLEO signoff in your new county of residence, or make a trust if you can't.
Moving out of state will be a PITA. You need to have your local FFL/SOT find out where your suppressors are in the manufacture or transfer process. - Have they been made yet? - Does the manufacturer have the approved Form 2 back from ATF yet? - Has the manufacturer started the Form 3 to your dealer yet? Once you know the answers to the above you and your dealer can work out a plan. |
