My father will pass on in the next few days.  I am the executor of the will and sole beneficiary.  He lives in WA and I live in TN.  What is the process for having his gun collection shipped from WA to TN?  Do they have to go to an FFL or can I have them shipped directly to me?  There are no pistols they are all long guns.

Were they left to you in the will?  Did he have a will?  Does he have a wife/other children?

Other things aside, you should be exempt from an FFL transfer for a transfer by bequest, as long as you can legally possess in your state of residence.

<––––-FFL

The guns become yours as soon as the will is probated (check WA law).
Federal law allows you to go to WA and:
-take possession and ship the firearms yourself direct to your address in TN. Only you can ship the guns, no one else.
or
-take possession and take the guns back with you as checked luggage on the airplane. (or by driving them back.)
or
- you could have someone in WA deliver the guns to a licensed dealer in WA for shipment to a dealer in TN (who would transfer the guns to you on a 4473/NICS.) If you have a relative, friend, etc in WA ship the guns to directly you in TN, you both are committing a Federal crime.

Only if he goes to WA to take possession, all Federal laws regarding the interstate shipment of firearms still apply.

Thanks for the advice.  There is a will and I am the executor and sole beneficiary.  I will contact my gun shop and find out about the form 4473/NICS.  I will be there next week for funeral and other business.  I will ship them to myself.

If you pick them up,  and then ship them to yourself, you do not fill out a 4473.  You would only do that at the FFL in your own state if you transfered them through the dealer.
