If this shit I was learning (again, intemediate algebra) was relevent to any fucking thing I did in the last 10 years since HS I would of liked it. But since I have to learn shit like "simply by factoring" and "absoule value" I hate math BECAUSE THAT SHIT IS POINTLESS WORK.

I tried to get Q1 on my math test for the last 90 minutes and I just gave up on the rest of the test when my wife tried to show me how to do the work. Fuck the work, show me how to suceed in life and I will pay attention and learn something.

I like the math in my Finance class because it is REALEVENT.

DAMMIT!

I sympathize with you on the math, but I'm not gonna cut you any slack on the spelling...

4/10 at best...

(and that includes an extra half point for "REALEVENT")

At least you're good at multiplying.

Do you hate double-tapping just as much?

What's hard about intermediate algebra?

Get back to your books.

Simplfying by factoring will help you in Financial analysis.

Yep, all pointless shit that led to the technology you used to bitch about the pointless shit.

I was helping my daughter with her homework once, and she asked me why she needed to learn all that algebra.  I smiled at her and told her "so you can help YOUR kids when they're taking it!"

Learning how to do differentials in calc was fun.   Learning how to find the volume of complex shapes rotated about a line was even more fun.

I went back to school and went through pre-calc to calc III purely out of a desire to further my understanding of the shooting world and ballistics.

There are times it is definitely a pain in the ass.   Primarily with the proofs and theorems of trig, still don't know all of them but if you knew enough of them you could whittle your way through it.   It sets you up for the good stuff in Calc.

The common phrase is "proving you know how to learn."  Factoring allows you to relate different equations in more simplified forms and such...  Usually 15 seconds of algebra applied to two equations will save you from computing errors of using the redundant form of some equation you have assembled.

I hear ya. Going back to school at 32 and I had to take a series of algebra in order to take the only math I need for my degree whichi is calc. Very little of this have I ever used in real life. I used some formulas for demo in the army but besides that not much of it.

Reminds me of that Barbie doll Mattel caught flak for about a decade ago. The Barbie doll said "Math is hard." Perhaps the OP should play with dolls.
