What are the requirements to wear the POW/MIA ribbon or claim POW/MIA status?
The husband of a friend of mine was "captured" last year in Iraq but he made it out. I don't know all the details but it just seems really shady to me. She says he's not authorized to wear the ribbon...so I come to you. Fake? |

Quoted:
being captured by the enemy is a pretty big deal. surprising how no one heard about this on the news, let alone in the Corps. she keeps telling me not to say anything about it to him because it brings back the memory...and he supposedly got beat and blah blah but, surprisingly, there's not a mark on him. no scars...not even when he came home. no obvious signs of PTSD and I hate to call her on it cuz she's a really good friend |

He wasn't captured by the enemy. He was abducted by criminals. The police are investigating. If the perps are caught, they will get a trial, right here in the USA. |

3. Criteria: a. The Prisoner of War Medal is issued only to those U.S. military personnel who were taken prisoner and held captive after 5 April 1917; (1) While engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States; (2) While engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or (3) While serving with friendly forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. b. Civilians who have been credited with military service which included the period of captivity are also eligible for the medal. c. Hostages of terrorists and persons detained by governments with which the United States is not engaged actively in armed conflict are not eligible for the medal. ETA: and if that's the case, he should also be able to wear the combat action ribbon...I really hate liars! especially about shit like this

It's a lot easier to tell your wife you were captured by the enemy and escaped after two days but didn't get a medal because of OPSEC than to explain to her about your lost weekend when you were passed out drunk in a whore house.
that's what I think he's done nothing but cheat and lie since they got together
