Doberman?

If you get a Doberman, you have to name it Atlas.  It's the only fitting name.

This is what I would like... a Rhodesian Ridgeback...

Old English Mastiff, they look like lovable oafs, until their protective genes kick in, then they're nothing to mess with .

I want one of them .... I already got a black Chug (Chihuahua Pug mix), I think they would make for a great pair.

My pup is actually a Rhodesian, Red Bone hound mix...i'll try and get some pics up when I get to the house...he's a great dog, unless you fuck with his toy.  Saw him pop his ridge once when a Great Dane tried to get a little uppity with him.

Rhodesian Ridgeback... Sounds like a sinister dog yet every one I have met has had a great disposition.

I have been fascinated by them since the first time I saw one.  There are a couple at the park where I walk my boxer (another fantastic breed albeit not the smartest ) and they all have great temperments.  One particularly large male is a constant source of vexation to his owner because she got him hoping he would be high energy and aggressive and he is the most laid back oaf you've ever seen.  She's always dragging him around the park.

Love them...one of my favorite breeds ever. Not overly smart, but loyal to the end.

Boxers strike me as the dumbest box of rocks I've ever seen. I havent had too much experience with them but Christ, I'm surprised that dog remembers to breath. Seems loyal and friendly, I wouldnt be adverse to owning one however.

They really aren't bright.  My boxer has a huge fan club... she really is an outstanding dog... but when people ask how smart she is I tell them, "She's really pretty."

What I do so love about her is how optimistic she is.  She can be in trouble and I can tell her, "That was inappropriate.  You go feel ashamed for what you've done."... and, yes, I do talk to my dogs this way and they understand... but five minutes later she'll peek around the corner with a "Sooooooo... I know I totally did that wrong thing... but we're cool now, right?  Right?!?" look on her face.  All I have to do is smile at her and she comes over wagging her tail.

My other dog, Boo Boo, had a rough upbringing until I got her and is INCREDIBLY smart.  She chews on things in her head and needs constant reassurance.  I love her... but that is draining sometimes.

Not that many more medical problems than any other purebreed but they can require a strict diet....and yes they don't have a long life...average is 8-ish years though they can live longer

All of y'all wanting huskies, malamutes, samoyeds, etc... I hope you loooooooove brushing dog hair.  Boo Boo is an Akita/Lab mix and the double coat and twice a year shedding is a PITA.

I grew up with a Siberian Husky (quarter breed)/wolf (three-quarter breed) and now have a Norwegian Elkhound (full breed).   Hair is something you get "accustomed" to...

Both of them were/are loyal to an absolute fault.

I guess it's just me then.

I've predominately had short haired dogs.  Right now I have my own two and three in the kennel up for adoption.  Three of them blow their coats twice a year.  I'm usually brushing them all on the same day and working around outside so I get sweaty.

Sweaty + loose dog hair = Me looking like a wookie

I'd tell anyone that wants a molosser to consider a Dogue de Bordeaux rather than an EM.They tend to be more lively, less lazy, usually are better with other dogs and people and don't drool as bad.

Life with an EM is one of CONSTANT mess.Think about owning a 190lb 3 year old. They drool like crazy, shed more than you'd ever think a short haired dog could, make a god-awful mess eating, their snoring is off the charts and their farts could be harnessed as WMD.EM's would be happy to never move unless they need to eat or poop-speaking of which, they drop ass in soup can sized packages. Many of them have hip and back problems in their "old age",often because their owners never exercised them enough and allowed them to get too fat and lazy. When you live with an EM,you just have to accept that there will be strands of dried drool in the most unlikely of places and there will be hair on everything regardless of vacc-ing twice a day.I just have to give the warning that they're cool dogs but they ain't like owning your average mutt or lab.

This is why we can never have anything nice:

Our pug has begun to resemble a pillow, a smelly snoring pillow. He lounges on the couch all day without any interest in anything besides snuggling next to the wife. Our ten month Aussie has turned her on to large dogs, loving and energetic!

my next-door neighbor has 2 beautiful dobies - they have the most ferocious bark I've ever heard, but are really chill.  One of them howls like crazy when he hears sirens of any kind - its hilarious.

Great dogs!

I had a dog  that was half Chow, half Samoyed. best damn dog, ever.  She lived to be 17 and only a few months shy of 18. Hearty dog with a thirst for the blood of any animal that would tresspass her yard but she loved humans and kids.  RIP Honey Bear.

My grandparents had a Doby named Legend.  Good dog but my mom didn't like it when she put her mouth around my brothers head.

DUDE, that is EXACTLY what Goober does ...... in fact that little shit has an entire couch to himself and gets pissy if you put something on his couch.  He is currently laying on his couch now until the woman gets home.

My wife called me from the pet store about 2 years ago now.

She found the prettiest damn Yorkie you could imagine. Had to have it. we had been discussing dogs for a month or so but this was unexpected, I didnt know we were at the "buying" stage. She wanted a yorkie, I wanted the Mastiff.

So right there on the phone shes ready to drop the 1k for this yorkie. She said they had a mastiff pup, same price. She'd get the mastiff if I really wanted but *I* was in charge of it. Walking, cleaning, vaccuuming. Whole 9 yards. I sat there on the phone for a minute thinking. I like the looks of Mastiffs but man thats just a trail of messes and a eating machine.

The yorkie has been a great dog.

I know they're bred for that but maybe they went a bit too far...we've taken him to the dog park and he'll just sit on the bench waiting to leave. Though I have seen some pugs with spunk, he has none.
