How much are you getting back?

How much are you paying?

Just started my taxes and it is depressing.

On rough figures, since I have not received some info just yet, that I going to get back about $2500.

I only paid in, between my wife and myself, $600.

If we had made just $800 less we would have gotten back another $3000.

Now help me understand why it is we are functioning in deficit?  A growing debt?  Geez, over half the country must be on welfare of one kind or another.

Then bitch that you wish you got more?

I have the 1st time homebuyers credit coming back, so I'll be getting a pretty big welfare *cough* "tax rebate" check this year. It's all going to principal on the house though.

Haven't received my W-2 yet but I plugged in last year's numbers (no raise for me) for a very rough ballpark idea and we should be getting back about $11,300.    The first time buyer's home credit was good to us!

OH boy, you guys are gonna love this one....

Bought a house
Bought windows for it
Bought a new furnace for said house
Wife goes to college ( new credits there now)
Qualified for "making work pay" credit.

I usually get about 2500 back ( I overpay a little).

This year: $11,250.00

If we had made just $800 less we would have gotten back another $3000. does this somehow relate to alternate minimum tax (amt)?  i heardabout it when i was a poor intern, but now that i'm working full time i don't quite understand it

Good for you. You paid only what you had to, and didn't give the government a interest free loan.

I never seem to get the numbers right. I always end up getting a few K back.

No I am bitching that the government is willing to give me money I did not earn from them.  That, having made almost $50,000 this year that the EIC pays out to someone who makes almost as much as I do.

I am pointing out that not only are those making as much as I am not paying any taxes, they are being PAID by the system.  And this while the system is going bankrupt.  If I thought it would do any good, I would not accept any of the money that they are giving me.  I would turn it back in to try to keep the government running.

This is not my money, but what is the Federal government going to do with it, other than hand it over to the cronies of the current administration?  And, no, I don't want more of it given to me as . . . hell . . .welfare.

Three.  Only one of them is 'little' anymore.  We are contemplating a fourth, but we are waiting for my wife to get through WLC first, so that she can get her E6.

That also pisses me off.  I am choosing to have children.  Tax deductions I can live with, to some degree.  Tax Credits??    That pays out higher, which is one of the reasons I am getting money back.

I will probably apply most of this years money towards college funds at a 40/35/25 split for the kids.  The oldest is just 6 years from graduation.

AMT is for higher income, if I understand it correctly.  It sounds like a good deal when you don't know what it is, but you have to pay more once you hit a certain level.  Someone who knows significantly more should chime in on this one.

One day I hope to be able to pay taxes without being concerned that the Fed is paying off those who got the current administration (whomever it may be) for the help in getting there.  That stimulus package is certainly slanted toward a certain group, ya know?
