On a very basic level, it comes down to this:
There are stories being circulated by various less than credible news sources. (Stories whose facts are based on something like: "There's no evidence of involvement in 9/11, but secret sources have indicated that evidence about this subject may exist, maybe...") Some people (myself included) are very skeptical of rumors, innuendo, and half stories. Other people choose to believe rumors, innuendo and half stories, because it supports their set of beliefs (and biases). I'll never knock someone for not believing a thin story. It's ALWAYS better to be skeptical, than to be gullible. The gullible are easy to manipulate. The skeptical are not. |

5 Israelis detained for `puzzling behavior' after WTC tragedy By Yossi Melman Five Israelis who had worked for a moving company based in New Jersey are being held in U.S. prisons for what the Federal Bureau of Investigation has described as "puzzling behavior" following the terror attack on the World Trade Center in New York last Tuesday. The five are expected to be deported sometime soon....... The five (Israelis) were transferred out of the FBI's facility on Saturday morning and are now being held in two prisons in New Jersey by the Immigration and Naturalization Services. They are charged with illegally residing in the United States and working there without permits. The Foreign Ministry said in response that it had been informed by the consulate in New York that the FBI had arrested the five for "puzzling behavior." They are said to have had been caught videotaping the disaster and shouting in what was interpreted as cries of joy and mockery. |

OK, I read the article and I didn't find it very helpful one way for another.
So if they were clean, why didn't their Bezalel Academy story check out? At the same time..... So if they were dirty, why didn't their cover check out (unless they were rookies)? Also, what ever came of the one report about phony visas and/or ID? One persistent theme keeps popping up since 9/11: That-we-need-to-control-people-visiting-the-US!!! If they overstay a visa, shouldn't INS know, and have the resources to send them back after a suitable detention period in which they can either come up with the money to pay for their return trip + costs of nabbing & holding them, or else work it off? My bet is that we'd see a lot of checks being mailed from their homeland! |

Folks, when Eric's arguments are frustrated with facts, he starts posting lies and ludicrous personal attacks. Wiser men than I have predicted just such reactions when those whose loyalty to a "favorite" country (in Eric's case Israel), is stronger than their loyalty to the United States.
The words below are SO TRUE! "So likewise, a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils. Sympathy for the favorite nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter without adequate inducement or justification. It leads also to concessions to the favorite nation of privileges denied to others which is apt doubly to injure the nation making the concessions; by unnecessarily parting with what ought to have been retained, and by exciting jealousy, ill-will, and a disposition to retaliate, in the parties from whom equal privileges are withheld. And it gives to ambitious, corrupted, or deluded citizens (who devote themselves to the favorite nation), facility to betray or sacrifice the interests of their own country, without odium, sometimes even with popularity; gilding, with the appearances of a virtuous sense of obligation, a commendable deference for public opinion, or a laudable zeal for public good, the base or foolish compliances of ambition, corruption, or infatuation. As avenues to foreign influence in innumerable ways, such attachments are particularly alarming to the truly enlightened and independent patriot. How many opportunities do they afford to tamper with domestic factions, to practice the arts of seduction, to mislead public opinion, to influence or awe the public councils 7 Such an attachment of a small or weak towards a great and powerful nation dooms the former to be the satellite of the latter. Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it. Excessive partiality for one foreign nation and excessive dislike of another cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests." DaMan |
