There is a NRM Colt combat commander (Mark IV Series 80) for sale locally that I am thinking of picking up.  It is the stainless model with rosewood grips, skeletonized trigger, and front checkering. It is in great condition with factory case and all paperwork.  My question is: What is it worth?  He has it listed at $775,  and after a lot of searching I can't get a good idea if this is a decent price.  Any help would be appreciated.

Best bet is to check prices on Gunbroker.  You will see what people are actually paying for them instead of what people say they should go for.

Fair price, but I would rather have a pre-Series '70 blued version.

I had one of those, it's a stupid gun and I love 1911s. I got mine for a G23 and I traded it for a Garand.

THIS!

My dad, an avid firearms collector is getting up there in age.  I was looking in a pawn shop at 2 1911's.   I called him and asked for his opinion......

He replied, next time you fly up take which ever one of mine you want....  Man I am lucky.  I be getting a blued Colt 1911 military issue from the 60's in nearly unused condition.

Last year he offered me a beautiful AYA #1 side lock ejector 12 ga.  My friends are envious.

Can you elaborate on that?

What was bad?

I've had a CCC series 70 for about 20 years and its an excellent pistol. Used to have series 70 CC's in 38 Super and 9MM but traded them off for other stuff. Never ever even considered parting with the .45, just too sweet. Like it better than a 70 series GC that I also traded away.

Just grabbed an Officers Model .45 series 80 and it's one helluva shooter. My only complaint is that I haven't found a matching arched main spring housing and that's trifling.

I've never heard of a Combat Commander that couldn't be fine tuned to  personal perfection. The 1911 platform is so widespread, so well know and there are so many parts available for any modification you could dream about.

Walk in with cash and be prepared to walk away if he won't work  with you. There are thousands more available. Your patience is well rewarded searching for 1911's.

The frontstrap checkering looks like the Wilson Combat part.

I wish I had not sold my blued one.

It was a series 70 with an 80's prefix serial number.

Like others have said, that price is OK to Fair, but not a steal by any means.   The 80 seris pistols have had some problems over the earlier 70 seris.  If I were you I would check out Springfield and look at one of their 1911's.  I know there are 5" stainless Loaded models out there for cheaper than what the Colt is going for.  Check them out on gun broker, I would prefer a Springfield to the 80 Seris Colts anyday.......now if it was a earlier 70 Seris, I  would have to go with the Colt.

That one appears to be a pre-XSE version, going by the sights and straight slide serrations.  It's a fair price if you want it, though I'd offer him $700 and see if he bites.
