Be sure to watch the video from GMA at the link ![]() http://abcnews.go.com/US/man-busted-massive-weapons-cache/story?id=9662593 ETA: I see that the story is a dupe. The GMA video is what I wanted to share with you. http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=9662752 Authorities in central New Jersey seized a cache of weapons and ammunition including rifles, a grenade launcher and a night vision scope from the motel room of a Virginia man arrested early Monday by officers responding to a report of a suspicious person. Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said Lloyd R. Woodson, 43, of Reston, Va., also had maps of a U.S. military facility and a town in another state. Forrest said Woodson was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle concealed under his green, military-style jacket when officers encountered him at a Quick Chek store in Branchburg shortly before 4 a.m. Monday. As officers started to question him, Woodson fled on foot toward a nearby trailer park, Forrest said. Officers found him hiding in some bushes and tackled him when he tried to run away again. The officers used pepper spray to subdue him. Forrest said the rifle Woodson was carrying had a defaced serial number and had been altered to fire .50-caliber ammunition. Detectives later searched the room where Woodson had been staying at the Red Mill Inn in Branchburg. Forrest said they seized another Bushmaster .308-caliber semiautomatic rifle with a defaced serial number, a 37 mm Cobray grenade launcher, a second bulletproof vest, a Russian-made night vision scope, a police scanner, the maps and hundreds of rounds of .50-caliber and .308-caliber ammunition. Woodson was being held at the Somerset County Jail on numerous charges, including unlawful possession of weapons, possession of prohibited weapons, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. Bail has not yet been set. Woodson was tentatively scheduled for an initial court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Spokesman Jack Bennett said the prosecutor's office did not know whether Woodson had retained a lawyer. Forrest said investigators from the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have joined the investigation. |

"altered to fire .50-caliber ammunition"
Does that mean it had a Beowulf upper? Now a door breacher round is capable of "destroying a house" according to the video. A grenade launcher becomes a "rocket launcher." Did the suspect actually have any grenades? OK, I don't know what this guy is doing in a quick shop in the middle of the night with a rifle under his coat, but, geez, are reporters stupid about guns or what? |
|
why the fuck would you be carrying around an AR with a .50 BMG upper (assuming that is what they meant) under a jacket?
Hey, if someone wants to conceal a rifle on them, whatever. Why someone would want to carry that instead of just a regular AR is beyond me though. |

Quoted: Come on guys. He does not sound like innocent Joe the gun collector her does he? Do you think that you would sound like innocent Joe the gun collector if the media had a video of your stuff? I know that I'd be the crazy guy with 'thousands' of round of ammunition and multiple 'assault weapons' ... not saying that he is or is not legit...but the media can sure spin things. I saw it all the time when I lived in NY...one kid at the local college was arrested for having a Stag AR and a Romy AK...both were ban compliant but the media crucified the poor kid. |

Come on guys. He does not sound like innocent Joe the gun collector her does he? The greater issue to this forum is the blatant lies generated by the media. For the nation as a whole, deception in accepted media is more dangerous than lone gunmen. Gunmen can be shot or arrested. Organized groups are far more dangerous. |

Oh hell, I can see it now. They'd have to bring in extra tables to lay out all the stuff for the news photos . . . "Police headed off a potential disaster in the making today when they arrested Bladeswitcher and seized a massive arsenal of weapons. Police confiscated several assault weapons and more than a dozen surplus military arms, along with dozens of other firearms, hundreds of knives and thousands of rounds of ammunition . . . " Just think. If it wasn't for that tragic boat accident . . . Of course, now all they'd find would be a couple of old cleaning kits and a few empty holsters. |

Quoted: Other than violate some BS NJ laws, what exactly did this guy do wrong to warrant calling the police? "Mopery with the intent to creep." ![]() I suspect there are lots of members here who could be charged with similar crimes during a trip to the range. Could probably start with concealed carry without a permit... Not supporting the story, just saying he had a rifle under a jacket...clerk probably hit the silent alarm when he saw it... |

There are BMG uppers, but they are single shot bolt action... |

I just believe that we don't need a permit to carry according to the BOR. |

That alone merits arrest. |

Wow, the level of stupidity in that GMA video was monumental. The deal about there being lots more of these guys, at the end, was a nice touch. ![]() Yeah, that male reporter in particular sounds like he got his firearms education from Brady and the VPC.

Your right though, it probably was a Beowulf upper, I forgot that caliber existed. |

but, geez, are reporters stupid about guns or what? Most Americans aren't familiar with firearms, believe it or not. Reporters simply reflect the population they are drawn from. Quoted:
He sounds paranoid. And, rightly so... Look what happened to him. I don't see anything that happened to him that shouldn't have happened to him. Defaced serial numbers? This guy wasn't a law abiding gun owner, regardless of the reports deficiencies. |

If I were a criminal who was big enough to conceal a .50 BMG, I don't think I would be afraid of any cops.

Unless there is licensing laws specific to NJ, carrying the rifle under his jacket would have probably been illegal in Texas. Open carry would have caused issues (disturbing the peace) if someone panicked, but would otherwise been legal. Not sure if a chl would help with a concealed rifle
