GF told me last night she was getting a big tax return, and she wanted to get me a new gun. God I love this girl...regardless, I need help choosing a new handgun to carry around in my truck.
I have limited options to choose from, and these are the ones that stand out to me...

SA 1911  Mil-Spec of those listed.

BUT:  considering the price point of a FN 57, you could probably pick up a loaded...

Unless they stopped making them, the PD I owned was a Commander-sized 1911.

Check with S&W on their site.

If you Google S&W 1911PD 4.25" you'll see a bunch of them.

Same as any 1911. Avoid the "idiot mark" on the frame and slide, though. God kills a puppy whenever an idiot mark is made.

I have owned two S&W 1911s. Both shot perfectly right out of the box. Great guns for the money!

Clean, lube and shoot 'em!

Mine was ridiculously accurate...POA was dead-on.

Reliability was perfect.

I am sorry, but I am unfamiliar with this "idiot mark" Could you elaborate a little as to how it is made and how to avoid it? Could it come from the factory "idiot marked", and would that be something I need to inspect for prior to purchase?

When putting the 1911 back together, the slide-stop can scratch the frame below the slide-stop hole if you're not careful.  Do a google image search for 1911 idiot marks and you'll get the idea.  There is NO reason an idiot-mark should happen other than carelessness.

I had a S&W 1911 with adjustable sights and sold it in a moment's weakness..........it was a solid well built handgun, and I wish I had it back now.......
