So my son brought over his older style PS3 which has been working perfect. We are now about to ship it out to him now that he is settled in so I went and picked one up. It is the newer model and all seemed fine until I got to the wireless setup. Basically after I turn it on and sign in it locks up my wireless access point. Put the older system back on and all is fine. Go back to the new one and it locks it up. I have to pull the power from the WAP and fire it back up again.

WTF!?

I unplugged all the wireless devices using that WAP and left just the PS3. So far so good. Now I am adding the others back one at a time.

It happens very occasionally but check the MAC addresses on the wireless devices, every so often you'll find 2 identical MACs which cause crazy weird problems

This can cause some major issues. +1

Wow that seems like a long shot but I'll check into that.

So far all but one system is back up. Will add that soon and see what happens. I most likely will wire the unit anyway but wanted to be sure it was not defective on the wireless side.

Just put my work notebook online and it crapped out. Now to check MAC addresses.

I had the exact same thing.  Do you happen to have a linksys router?  I would power on the PS3 and it would shut the entire house wireless down.

The way you fix it is by going into the router settings at 192.168.1.1 and makeing sure DHCP is set to enable and that UpnP is off (under administration)

I did that and she worked right away after I rebooted the router and modem.

you sound a little more savy than me, but I would drop signal whenever I tried to use my PS3 wirelessly.  Everything works much better now that I hacked and downloaded DD-WRT.

So I have UPNP off on the PS3 and don't see that for the router. I have the router's DHCP to DISABLED. The notebook is still causing the issue. What is happening when DHCP is disabled?

when DHCP is disabled, the router can't assign IP addresses for your laptop and the PS3.  So one will interfere with the other.  It should be enabled through the router settings.

Are you running WPA security? Sometimes PS3 doesn't like WEP...

Yes I have my wireless WEP protected. So....

Why is the older PS3 ok?

If the new PS3 is ok w/o the notebook on and ALL the other devices connecting, is it functioning properly? Should I go swap it for another to see if it does the same?

Going to check the DHCP stuff now.

I turn on the routers DHCP but now the PS3 says that the INTERNET CONNECTION - FAILS

Arg is right...  I  remember looking for hours to get mine working.

Try assigning ports like these guys do.  I guess they assign the PS3 a static IP and then just type that into the router settings.
