| I was wondering who was going to replace colts m4 for the military. Or when it will happen. Thank you |

As of now it is said in article in the Book of the AR15(Guns & Ammo),Sabre Defence was recently awarded a contract to produce more than 5,500 M16A4 rifles to support the U.S Navy, Marine Corps and several foregin military customers. I guess this company is to be watched for the future of the M16/AR15....Sabre is the only third company in the 45 year M16 history besides Colt and FN to be awarded a Contract to supply mil spec M16 to the Gov. |

You left out GM-Hydramatic and Harrington & Richardson. |

If they replace the M4, then who knows. If they stay with the M4, it will probably stay with Colt, because although the DoD no longer is required to sole source from them, Colt still owns the TDP, and te DoD will be required to pay Colt royalties if they go anywhere else. Those royalties will force the price up from any other maker. http://www.defensereview.com/colt-defense-rebuts-matt-coxs-army-times-article-army-acquires-rights-to-m4/ |

I thought I read somewhere, that there was to be a carbine competition this spring, for an M4 replacement. When isn't there? They're constantly doing this stuff, but it never changes. In my opinion as a civilian who's never had any real experience with a legit M16/M4, the ONLY time I can see us changing from the M16/M4 family for military use is when we want to use a different round, and then we would have to wait for NATO to also adopt the round for uniformity and availability. |
