Les Baer FTW!

Springfield "Loaded" model, are a real sweet spot for value.

None of the above.

Money no option?  Miller custom or maybe Novaks full house job built on a 5" small letter 70's series Colt.

Little more realistic?  Les Baer or Wilson Combat.

Springfield Armory.

I currently own both a Kimber custom shop variant (Pro Raptor) and a Springfield MC Operator (each NIB), and have handled taurus' previously.   No experience with the S&W but general knowledge of the past several years puts it on tier with the Taurus IIRC.

Clearly, the Springfield is better made, tighter, and with better aesthetic (fit, finish, durability) than the Kimber.   It was also cheaper by several hundreds of dollars.    I really enjoy both, but the Springfield Operator I purchased is hands-down a better made pistol to my anecdotal usage.   I had to polish the chamber of my $1100 Kimber within 4 months and 700 rounds of owning it, although I am not prepared to blame Kimber for that - I just know that customer service was not terribly helpful.

I now recommend Springfield to anyone who asks.

I saw the poll - if money is not a factor - get a Les Baer, Nighthawk or Pistol Dynamics.

If I had the coin, I would call Paul Liebenberg TODAY & get a custom piece started.

Edit - I don't, so I am content to shoot my Taurus PT1911 that I paid less than 500.00 for - it's proven to be problem free, even if the finish sucks.

If money is no option, there are many more choices.

But staying within the choices you put up, I'd vote a SA Professional.

1/19/2010 6:54:29 AM EDT
[#19]
Of the choices listed, I'd go S&W or Springfield.

Don't use magazines with weak mag springs or without the dimpled follower.

Money no object = none of the above!
1/19/2010 6:56:52 AM EDT

The reason I did not add more options in the poll was that those are my available options at my FFL.  I do not want to wait months for a custom.

The SA's do have a nice lineup...

Well, fwiw, I own two springfield armory government model .45's and I would have no issue adding a third to the bunch.

Get an STI and be done with. Quality and accuracy as good as any and better than anything you have listed. Fit & finnish a bit short of Les Baer or Nighthawk Custom but much bettter price. Company is in Texas and run by Texans. Good people.

STI International

Where do you live? Also it take less than 3 days to get a Ed Brown to you if you order one from a FFL, hell I think you can order one fron Ed Brown and get it in under 30 days. Also what modles does your FFL have in stock?

From the choices above:

Springfield TRP

Had to vote SA because I recently got a Loaded stainless and love it.

My FFL can get any one of the models from the manufactures above within 1-3 days since they are a dealer for those manufacturers.

YMMV, and I acknowledge that they have a great reputation. But I had nothing but trouble with my STI Ranger.

Poll failure; no Colt.

NOTHING wrong with the PT1911! I had one for a couple of years and really liked it. Only traded it away because it was the best of what I had at the time and the guy wanted it. He's been VERY happy with it as well.

None of the above.  Blech.

Colt, STI, or Dan Wesson.

I currently own one Springfield and hopefully that will soon be down to zero.

I love my Loaded as well... but if money is no object you should aim a bit higher than Kimber.

Wilson, Ed Brown, Nighthawk, Caspian and Les Baer for starters...

It’s my favorite handgun I own; it has been 100% reliable, with the factory magazines. As a Lefty, I appreciated not having to pay extra to get an Ambi safety & it was nice to get checkering everywhere it needs to be without having to pony up for some “ProfessionalTacticalNinjaOperator” model.

I just know there are a lot of  haters on the board…

Money isn't an option? Wilson Combat or Ed Brown.

From the above poll...
1. Higher end Springfield
2. S&W
3. SIG

Kimber, all depends on which model, the best would be one w/o the FPS.
