Who else played it?

I must have played when I was around 10.  I recently downloaded a PSX emulator and started playing through it again.  Great game.

It has some of the best music I've heard in a game.

I've beaten it many times over. Gold chocobo, KotR, all that.

Masterpiece.

I have the entire soundtrack on my iPod.
one of the best games ever, without a doubt.
very moving story too...

This needs a poll,  "Tifa, or Aeris?"

The last Final Fantasy I played. I loved that game. I tried to play 8 when it came out but could not stay interested in it for some reason. Played everything in seven however. I remember beating the last fights using mimic materia and something else that escapes me at the moment to make my party cast a never ending barrage of Knights Of The Round. Also played it so much that I actually bought the villa at Casa Del Sol.

The best game oif all time. No question. Cloud was bad ass. Gettingg the gold chocobo took forever. But with it you could get the Knights of the Round materia I think i had over 300 hours of playtime.

ETA: Tifa. Also the video scenes/soundtrack were awesome. The story was also amazing. The only better storyline was Metal Gear Solid.

Great game.

Started a console RPG revolution.

There's no telling how much time I spent trying to get a gold Chocobo just to get Knight of the Round, but it was worth it.

I, too, would like to know which emulator you use.

The materia system is the best magic system of any RPG to date IMHO.

Absolutely love that game.  I've played through it 3 times.  I usually got my main dudes up to lvl99 and would rape Sepiroth.  Omnislash for the win.

Gold Chocobos, Knights of the Round, killing the Weapons, what an awesome game.  I could never get into the new versions, but 7 is my favorite game of all time

7 and 8 are really the only two I like. I absolutely love 8. The story gets very deep and dark, especially towards the end of the second disc.

An emulator will really make the game take a lot less time to complete.

(You can speed the game up and slow it down)

Edit: I liked 9 the best

the odd ones are the only good ones.  i think that either 7 or 9 were the best, probably 9.  then they went and made like 14 of them called FFX:something else.  wtf.

i was thinking about getting the new dragon warrior for DS, that original on the NES was awesome.

Is there any way to get this onto a Windows 7 computer?. I loved that game and wouldn't mind killing some hours with it again.

I couldn't get into it.

FFVI is my alltime favorite.

And just because I can, here's the Opera from FFVI in two parts, performed live by a real orchestra and singers:

I played it once, when I was 13-14.  Great game, but I preferred some of the other titles (X and VIII in particular).

Yes, that's where I got my username from, and no, I really couldn't think of anything better at the time.

This is the only Final Fantasy I ever played:

yes and no.   it was the easiest magic system, but Im not sure if Id call it the best

FF8 had a similar system where any character could fill any role depending on what you loaded them up with.
So basically your main party was just whichever characters you thought coolest and you only bothered with the others if your main group wasnt available
Quoted:

unless youve got a thing for dead chicks, the question should be tifa or yuffie

And yes emulators are the way to go.   speeds up the game some, plus the ability to save and reload the game anywhere and anytime.   its very helpful for folks who make a long trek and wind up getting wiped out 2 screens shy of a save point.   not to mention if your real good you can cross the entire world and not fight one random battle

I actually didn't play it till I owned a PS2.  I beat the game in 2004.

I like 8 better.

8 is about the last of the decent ones.

7 is the undisputed king of FF followed by 8 then 6, 5, and 4 in that order.    Everything above 8 starts getting progressively worse.

9 was meh, 10 was ugh, 10-2 was wtf?!, and 12 was pure shit.

Im not overly hopeful for 13, but Im an idiot and will likely buy it anyway

That's about the only reason I'm considering getting a PS3 (despite all the other cool things on PS3).

Surprisingly most don't know you can download it now on the PSN.

Not even all of the CoD series, or CSS have matched its replay value with me.

Easily the most overrated game of all time. The story wasn't even that good =\. I mean, it was good, but of all the Final Fantasies 7 is one of the worst story wise and only average game play wise.

FFT (not that advance crap) has the best story with 8 being fairly close. Period. The best game play is a tossup between 9, Tactics, and 3/6.

Earthbound is far greater than FF7.

Loved 7

8 is my all time favorite. I about shit my pants when Seifer killed Odin.

9 was completely forgettable....literally. I remember nothing about the story other than that the little black mage was special for some reason.

I enjoyed 10 but the end was retarded.

I played 10-2 for like 20 minutes then sold it back to gamestop on the same day. The sad part is that the guy said i wasn't the only one to have done that.

12 was a mix of 9 and 10-2, completely forgettable and i never finished it. All i remember is some room with a monster that spawned other monsters and you could set the macro system up in a way that the fight would go on forever. I think i left my ps2 on for like 3 days strait while my characters collected xp.

Despite coming of video-game age during its heyday (middle school) I have actually never played it. Seems kinda silly to me, but who knows.

I did get addicted to Oblivion on the Xbox 360 for a summer a couple years back, so I can't really judge.

Did you play the SNES version or the PS remake?

I used to use the relic for two handed weapons on Edgar and another relic for multiple hits and he could defeat those T-rexs in one turn. I played the SNES version so I used the bug to make copies of the best weapons like the Excalibur.

I have not played the game in close to 17 years so I dont know why I remember all this crap.

VII was the best FF EVAR. I got it when it first came out. I remember all those end game magic spells that took like a MINUTE apiece for each one to cast with the animation and they all hit in multiples of 9999, coolest thing ever.

I honestly dont get the numbering sequence as theres only 2 true sequels in the entire franchise (X2 and XII2)

but its a recognizable name and I guess thats somehow better than square spitting out dozens of randomly named easily missable games

yeah but you only get that effect the first time.
Then there were the folks who argued for years that there had to be a way to find her again.     Myself included.   hell that happened in disc 1 and you just kept finding more weapons for her during the course of the game.   you pick up her ultimate weapon on disc 4 for fucks sake and she has a level 4 limit break
