Coal mining company is in the process of mining all of our family's land.

My hunting buddy for the day, my older brother Billy, hes shooting a 410 pump

This is the type of cover we are hunting. Only works for killing rabbits when theres snow.

As you can see its thick.

We killed 8 in 1.5 hours in the field behind us. As you can see there is only 7 in the pic, I shot one alittle far back and was a total loss.

My 4 year old wanted to go when we got back to the house.

This was the first time he had been rabbit hunting. We kicked up 4 and killed 2. I think hes hooked.

Dinner cooking, Fried Potatoes, Rabbit, Frozen corn from my grandparents farm and fresh tea.

Obligatory pic of city girl wife whos not too happy that rabbit is for dinner.

Dinner is served, G19, beat up Kershaw Ken onion daily carry, Weapon of the Day Benelli  M2 that I bought to make it a tactical shotgun that is a rabbit killer.

I never realized how time consuming these dinner pic threads are.oste

there's a difference between deer, waterfowl, upland bird and raccoon, nutria, and coyote.

granted, rabbit is going to fall into the former rather than the latter, but still.

The Family farm is in Oakland City, I moved to Indy 13 years ago when I got out of the Army. I would do anything to get back there and live...my checking account says different.

They are real easy to kill when there is snow on the ground.

My brother has dogs but we leave them at home when the snows down.

Its a dark meat, a little gamey but not bad by any means.

In 1985 we had our best year rabbit hunting killing 186. We were poor, living on a farm and ate every one of them. Needles to say after I left home it took a while before I started to eat them again.

I was going to say that we do it too - Mommy and Daddy have poached salmon and asparagus, Little Boy has mac & cheese and a hotdog.

What shot for bunnies?

How do you fry them? A dredge and a batter, what?

I use 6 to 7 1/2  shot 2 3/4 shells for rabbits. I jump my own rabbits so I need something that doesn't destroy the meat.

I salt and use fresh ground pepper on them then flower. Cook them in crisco

My kids usually eat what we have, but tonight the oldest boy was being a butt and I didnt feel like making him eat rabbit.
