I have had my fill on the excuses from my ISP on why their services are down all the time.  I have a roarin' dialup connect of 28800 and am ready for something a little faster.  What do you have and:
How much does it cost per month?
How much was the equipment?
How fast is it?
Reliability?

And any other pertinent info you might have.

Thanks

Sat. is great if you are in remote areas, but it sucks for online gaming.  Too much lag.

Well I am in a remote BF location in BF Wa.  No cable or high speed available.  Where is all the info?  I saw on a thread some time ago for guys bragging about their connection speeds and there were at least a dozen guys talking about there satellite connections.

Hey 1gun,

I haven't really delved into the satellite web access deeply, but things to keep in mind.

2-way vs. Hybrid (1-way)

Recently (since the last time I looked), you can finally get a 2-way satellite connection. Prior, you basicly had the incomming data via satellite, and outgoing data via a phone line and a 28.8 to 33.6 modem(1-way).

Personally, I would go for the 2-way connection. Now you may not get the speeds of cable or DSL, but it will be faster than 28.8 connection. I just recently moved off a 1-way cable modem, and let me tell you... it sucked. 2-way connections are well worth it.

As for a provider, a quick Google search revealed the following.

Google Business > Industries > Telecommunications > Wireless > Service Providers > Satellite > Internet

The main drawbacks for satellite internet are...

[*]Commercial/business usage[/*]
[*]Macintosh, Linux, Unix [/*]
[*]Gateway/router-based networking [/*]
[*]Web hosting, VPN, voice and video over IP [/*]
[*]Real-time shooter and RPG games [/*]
[*]Mobile installation applications (e.g. RVs) [/*]
[*]AOL 5.0/6.0 or Prodigy 5.0 browsers [/*]
[*]Large file and e-mail uploads [/*]
[*]Peer-to-peer (P2P) filesharing applications [/*]
Oh, forgot to add...

If you live in a socialist housing community (Home Owners Association), and they bitch about your dish on your house, tell them F*** OFF!!! As per the FCC and Telecommunications Act of 1996 they can't stop you. More info at http://www.fcc.gov/csb/facts/otard.html
